I don't know if anyone here has bought any soundtracks from Limited Run Games, but this sums up my viewpoint:

I'm unfamiliar with Limited Run, do they properly license all the music and art they sell?

short summary of the video: the CD audio was found to be indistinguishable from 128kbps soundtrack MP3s from 2001, implying that they pressed the CD with lossy compressed source audio sad

They are a publishing company, so I would assume so. They publish physical copies of PS Vita games that were only previously released digitally and publish physical albums to soundtracks that were also only released digitally.

They are also a part of Mighty Rabbit Studios, a game development company.

Edit: Or... Maybe there is no lossless source available?

i believe the idea would have been to create a new lossless source by playing the GBS either through a pro sound gameboy or an emulator such as BGB, there are many options to do so

This is really silly. I would be surprised if you could visually see a difference between a lossless and a 128k waveform zoomed out like that side by side with non-dynamic material. They don't understand your question on Twitter because it's silly and makes no sense.

the best proof is probably to check the frequencies on the spectrogram, since encoding MP3 at 128kbps does a hard lowpass at 16kHz. and it actually does seem that the CD audio was lowpassed (and some extra noise added on top). recording straight from game boy to audio interface at 44.1kHz will show frequencies all the way up to 22kHz

In the case of Shantae (GBC): no, there isn't--unless someone's willing to download the GBS files (assuming they're accurate rips), put them on a flashcart, and record them off a GameBoy.

In the case of Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse: they're right here: https://virt.bandcamp.com/album/shantae … soundtrack https://virt.bandcamp.com/album/shantae … -curse-ost And it's name your price!

That wasn't my Tweet, and how does it not make sense? It was answered with a complete understanding of what was being asked.

it could easily have been interpreted as "is this cd a with mp3 files on it" -- you know, mp3-cds, those things that were a big deal in car audio in 2004. this makes sense given their answer which is basically, "no, it's an audio cd" - which is true

not saying i think pressing a cd with lossy audio and selling it is particularly cool but i think there is plenty of potential for them to have answered that tweet honestly and in good faith

I've done that a couple times, it's pretty easy. There's a tool somewhere that converts a gbs file to a rom

yes! you posted about it here: http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/3074/gbs2gb/

there is a Shantae GBS rip here http://gbs.joshw.info/s/Shantae%20(GBC) … Capcom).7z

that seems to be verified accurate according to a post on this page https://www.hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php? … howpage=35

Just buy music direct from artists ok. If the artist doesn't promo the release, its probably garbage.

There's one problem: the GBC soundtrack hasn't had any other releases.

Oh, hey! Wow, look at that! Looks like half the work is done already. The music tracks even have a proper order! I never thought of putting those GBS roms on a DMG before (I only have a GBASP).

It looks like my wish has been granted: https://www.fangamer.com/products/shant … soundtrack

Shantae now gets a vinyl release with a proper track order, more music tracks, and original artwork.
