Actually, I don't know what anyone would think about this but how about having a "popular this week" section but without an actual rank?

As long as it's not on the front page, it could be cool smile

FFS, was the Jose rage really necessary here? Really? We can't discuss another site without bringing up some shit from over a year ago that it's owner did that 99.5% of people barely remember anymore? Come on now maaaaan, let's move on!

Hey if he can't vent here, where can he?

I have to agree with 4mat, a basic forum homepage is the least useful thing to have. I always click on "Recent Posts" anyway. I think the homepage should be 2 columns:

- Latest songs.
- Latest posts.

There were good ideas around, but doing nothing with the music section hurt the site; why upload here if nobody listens anyway?

This is me grabbing my junk and saying. "Oh my got that's some funky shit"

*off topic*
I devoted a lot of years and effort to help make 8bc was it became today. I helped take it from under 500members to well over 15k members( and now it's over 20k members?) So i have a little bit of a right to hold a grudge for quite a long time.

*on topic*
i like some of the suggestions being brought up how ever, i think the music section is just fine the way it is.. the fact is... i'm seeing very little views which tells me .
1. people are in fact uploading tracks
2. other people simply aren't listening to the songs.

So the original statement will be that more people need to go to the music page, and view the uploads and give them a listen! :-D

I don't knock you for how you feel or holding a grudge. I understand how you feel and I think it's legit. Constantly bringing it up in this forum though...it's just lame as all fuck, I'm sorry to say. And it's also, in my opinion, a little insulting to this site because, well, I know this place kinda started, or was inspired by the horribleness of 8bc, but I think it's high time for Chipmusic.org to have it's own identity as a place for chipmusic, not just the happy/superior alternative to 8bitcollective. It's long overdue.

I won't go off-topic on this shiz again though, my bad y'all.

I agree, and I agree with what you and some others said before, which is that the music section should be featured more prominently. The way we interact with websites is mostly intuitive, ya gotta throw the music in people's faces just a little bit without being spammy.

meh.. i was one of the founding fathers of this site too. even though i had nothing to do w/ the code. lol
i haven't really brought it up much other than this thread. But shit.. what chipmusic forum would this be w/o Low-Gain's banter? i mean c'mon... 8bc sucks now that i'm gone right? hahaha

chipmusic.org def has it's own identity... it's a site driven by community. every man(or women) stands side by side embracing what we
know and love.. Chipmusic.  By the people for the people. the fact that it's a happy/superior alternative to that other site is simply icing on the cake wink

heart U. See you soon good buddy.

Haha, I like the "in ceterum censeo 8bcollectivum esse delendam"-s.

Anyways, the question is why people don't listen to the music, and I agree that one cause is it's not featured very prominently.
As a rule of thumb, people on the internets are lazy bums when it comes to navigating web sites. Each additional click necessary to get to content halves the visitors who bother. mk has a radio script, great, why not integrate it with the site?

Edit: Oh, and the upload section has had the option to enable thumbs up/down for ages. That'd be cool to have as Ajax in the radio- I can listen to random tag radio and thumble things.

Is trash80 even maintaining the site anymore? It seems like nothing new has come up in the past year.

There is a big space under who's online. Would it be possible to integrate a flash player the size of just a play icon with the latest 5-10 songs or 5-10 random songs per page (with an artist/song name)? I don't think that would intrude too much.

Totally agree, the place need to have a front page with newest posts, and newest songs. I don't care if they get sorted by rank or whatever, just as long as it's out there. Because, honestly, I actually have the "recently active topics" as my bookmark to this site, and I miss literally everything else if it doesn't show up there.

Here, you get music views and comments no matter what. On 8bc, you need to call your song something like 'Dubstep Porn Click Here For Free Monies.mp3' to even get a view.

I find that the quality of tracks uploaded here is pretty low, possibly even lower than 8bc. Kinda puts me off a little bit, but it shows that I listen to them!

While things like Electric Children and Spamtron (just grabbing a couple from 8bc's chart this week) ain't my particular cup of tea, they are clearly competent musicians who know how to put sounds together in a pleasing way.

I guess that most people who post here are too busy with real life crap (the average age here is probably a lot higher that 8bc!) and the music that they write is more likely to be saved for an EP.
