Yeah, Prosound isn't "essential", per se. The noisy hum is part of the charm with lo-fi lo-cost music like this. It's like room noise from a garage band's recording.
However, when it comes to big performances, noise could be an issue.
But if you're just tracking at home for the hell of it, learn to love the hum.

I mean, Prosounds are good and all, but they're extremely overrated. They're not essential, but on the same breath they're not useless.
They're just nice.

prosound is definitely non-essential, but can become helpful when using with multiple pieces of other hardware that also put out a bit of noise (like an nes or bent gear) or when trying to match output levels of pro gear...when using just a game boy, your time may be better spent learning how to use noise reduction in your recording software than prosound modding
