so many entries in this compo already. im excited to see such a big turnout and its only wednesday!
Agreed!
Yes, this compo uses a setting every 2 weeks that we must use our talents to compose for. His is a shorter compo and uses limitations or stipulations within a tracker/sequencer to produce generally shorter songs with limitations and instructions on how the tracker is to be used. In other words, it will give me something to do while I wait for the voting on this one to be done, or if I finish a song early . I'll still enter both as much as I can.
Also, isn't it a good thing when someone is inspired enough by a chip compo to make one of their own? If anything, I am overjoyed when a new chip compo like this shows up, because it gives me more chances to challenge myself as a composer Seriously, take a good look at the rules in his compo and you'll see that it's different .
I think the misunderstanding was caused by 8-Bit-Rex posting a link to his compo here. Almost like he was trying to one up you or something, but I don't think that was his intention. I think he likes your bi-weekly compo . Not only does he enter it himself, but it inspired him to make a compo of his own with his own twist. You know what they say, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" !
Let's not let a misunderstand spoil 2 very good things. There should be no reason why both compos cannot co-exist peacefully . If anything I'd like to see more !!
True anonymity would be excellent. I am all for doing whatever I can to follow things so this can happen or at least be closer to it
. It would be more valuable to me to know that my song was voted for because it was something that fit the guidelines. To be honest, were I ever to get involved somehow in a job that had me composing for some indie game, that kind of result would be invaluable to me.
However, for now...it's just nice to be a part of something where everyone is welcomed to participate and people generally respect each other as artists here. It's nice to win things sure, but some of these themes have resulted in some of my better compositions, and that's worth a lot already.
I would've done that, but my Bi weekly tune uses DPCM extensively to where it wouldn't have been the same song without it, and I started on that one first so....yeah. But, yeah that's pretty clever
Oh, and I decided not to use the FDS channel and just go with the normal 2A03 triangle, as my tune was simple enough . I am happy to report I was able to enter something for both compo's already! But, realistically there may be times when I might not grab both compo's when they fall on making 2 songs in 1 week depending on the theme's of each compo. I hope to contribute to this one as much as possible because it is very interesting . If nothing else I can always find enough time for voting . But I will always be trying my hardest to squeeze both in somehow ha ha. Now if someone in our group goes and makes another compo, I might be screwed!
I kind of did a thing where one song fades out and another fades in instead of a cut off with dead silence, but you can still easily tell where one song ends and the other one begins! Plus, it sort of fits my song title better that way. I hope that's alright. If not...uhhh...too late !
I just changed my name to an anonymous one for the very reason that you can see who did what if you really want to know, but at the same time I see no reason to change it back and forth every week so I keep it that way for song entering purposes, I am motivated enough to go into the settings and change it once, but too lazy to alter it all the time as I see no real reason to . People know who I am in the chat and can see which song I did if they want, so as others have said it doesn't really matter to me anyhow .
Aw!!! So close! Got second by 1 vote! Had I not voted for 2PLAYER we would've tied! Naw, you deserve it though, congrats!
Lol, that face....
*cracks knuckles* Time for some FDS channel abuse! Muahahaha!
Oh, you said famitracker. Right on . I might give these things a shot
If only I were an LSDJ guy, I just haven't gotten into it somehow. Something about tracking with a D-pad and buttons drives me crazy. . Would famitracker with the famicom disk system channel acting as my "wav" channel be close enough?
It would be cool if we could somehow get enough members to work on a soundtrack for an entire fictional game someday. Get a nice story for a game and have different things up for grabs. Like put different people down for different things. Someone does a Title song, someone does a cave level, ice level, forest level, boss music ect. In fact, getting a pixel artist to make a cover for that type of compo would be all kinds of rad too like 2 player mentioned. Of course, that may be a bit too ambitious of an idea for now. But I was thinking about in the future .
Or, how about this? I was just thinking how even though everyone composes for the same setting the end results come out sounding so different. It would be cool to maybe have an album someday that showcases the best of this compo after it has been going on for a while. Make it a free download with some cool pixel art cover. In fact that could be quite an interesting incentive for winning! If you happen to grab the most votes for a theme, that song could be featured on a collection album entiled "Bi-weekly compo volume 1!" after there have been like 12 compos or something. Have a 12 song album for the work of 6 months of bi-weekly compos complete with cover art, maybe even artist bio's or something? Ha ha ha, I don't know I'm just spewing out random ideas for the future. I mean well, I swear . Long Live BWC!!
Ha, now you are a guy who I would love to see enter this compo HPizzle. I hope you do get motivated for whatever the next theme will be. I am pretty sure I will participate in this next one too. I think 2player has got this one in the bag, but either way I had a good time .
Awesome!
Part of the fun of this compo is the fact that we don't know what theme may be coming up next . Everyone has a preferred style of music writing I'm sure. Some themes will come more naturally to us than others, but if you stretch yourself a little it just might be that you can write in a style you didn't know you had in you . For me, that's really the great thing about this. Even if I don't "win", I still gain valuable experience as a composer and I get to observe the outcome of other artists as well. Even in the short time I have participated in these, there have been numerous times where I have listened to someone else take on a theme and though "I wouldn't have thought of that, but that's awesome!" Basically, if it's relevant to your interests to branch out as a composer and become more versatile then by all means don't pass this up. The themes are fun and interesting, the people are friendly and talented, and everyone is happy to see another participant no matter what level of experience you may be at. If you want to improve as a musician, than this is one of the best ways to do so that I have seen in a good long while. I hope you do join at some point Frostbyte, the more people the better .
