very tempted to bus down there impromptu if not for work the very next morning! ugh.

do you know if any of these artists are headed up to Seattle for PAX Prime after?

every so often i still buy a bag of assorted candy from the candy store.  i'm the only guy of my persuasion in the store, thoughtfully picking candy amongst giggly preteen girls and tourists.  i don't care.   gummi cola bottles 4 life.

good lord.  i listened to the album, i sat down, and then i cried in defeat.

fantastic release guys!  digging the idea of really committing to particular chips and embracing the particular sonic worlds that they can paint.  looking forward to more stuff down the road.

KORE2012: fave tune of the album / your set / life.   THOSE SWEEPS

had an amazing time visiting montreal, had an amazing time meeting and hanging out with chip peeps throughout the weekend, had an amazing time doing a rare performance for chip peers and chip heroes.

it was always my hope to see all sorts of canadian chip guys together performing in one place.  That just happened for real this weekend.  this festival did so many things right: a killer lineup, good support from choice sponsors, technical provisions, sweet selection of multiplayer games for visitors, and GOOD GOD THE VENUE.  hands down THE BEST venue i've ever seen/been to -  BEAUTIFUL beautiful stage.

major kudos goes to the Toy Company and Montreal chip crews, who demonstrated an amazing amount of solidarity and good vibes.  gents, THAT'S how you cultivate a local chip presence - the rest of the world should take note.  It's certainly inspiring me to renew my efforts to help do the same in vancouver.

once again, gr8 job guise would go again

hey ilkae,

that definitely helps me understand where you're coming from - i mistakenly interpreted your slow fadeout as trying to gracefully truncate your set, which i had evidently misheard as 4 to 8 minutes.

please accept my sincere apologies for the misunderstanding.

there's an explanation here that sheds some light on what actually happened. (hopefully there will be some others that can offer tidbits that can clarify the situation).

tl;dr; apologies to those who were expecting a full set.  on the stream it looked like i cut off ilkae, but the situation was more complicated than that.  read the other thread for a bit more information and THEN continue to crucify me if you need to.

hey guys, just wanted to chime in briefly.  for the record, yes, i was playing after him.  second, ilkae told me that he would be sharing just one song from his set that would take only 4 to 8 minutes, to make up for hardware issues that persisted for at least an hour (requiring xc3n to stall a long time and eventually for kris keyser to pre-empt ilkae).  this was all communicated between he, i, and the other organizers for maximum transparency.

i know that ilkae's fans (me included, btw) wanted to hear at least a chunk of his set, so i can understand the vitriol for the people who were expecting a full set, and i can totally see how it seemed that i just cut him off or something.  if i remember correctly, he was fading out to end his set and i was trying specifically to do whatever i could not to interrupt his sound (including turning off my outputs until he had completely faded out).  if a startup sound leaked out prematurely during his set then it was a legitimate mistake and i totally apologize for that.

for my part, i was trying to do what i could at the event to respect etiquette for other performers (including things like respecting set times for other artists).  depending on what ilkae wants to do, i'm going to do what i personally can to see about carving out time for him to play more of his set tomorrow if he wants.

all i can say at this point is that i'll definitely keep trying to learn how to improve that in the future.  that said, if you still feel the need to ram a hate train through my body, do what you need to do.  i'll keep it in mind next time.

P.S. that careful shouting track was an april fool's joke, so if you want to dump all over that, fair enough.

well look at this!

i got in one little fight and my mom got scared! / and said "you're moving with your auntie and uncle in philly because i heard 8static is going to play host to a whole ton of chip artists in the fall".

gave this a listen!  i realized that my ears can only take so much 1-bit at a time, so it was a little challenging to listen through the whole album in one go.  but there's some really surprisingly awesome composition packed into this compilation!

nice tutorial!   few people realize the WAV channel's potential for doing neat stuff with overtones and additive synthesis.  you explained the process very well.  i'm doing something similar on a tune i'm working on, except the waves aren't hand-drawn and it was mostly trial and error to get the necessary overtones.

a potential disadvantage of this is because you're additively piling on waveforms on top of each other, you need extra volume headroom, which means your wav sounds will sound quieter on average.   but that can be worked around somewhat by making all your other instruments quieter.

drawing the waves by hand is most definitely an arduous process though!  i wonder if there's a tool that can autogenerate these waves and spit out an lsdsng..

Maybe I should just give schism a chance. I always think it's a grotesque graphical nightmare. Any good tutorial resources I should hit up?

The interface for Schism / Impulse tracker is VERY keyboard centric, i'd say even more so than FastTracker or Milkytracker.  but both Schism / Impulse have a contextual help menu (usually F1) that shows you either an effect command list, or a list of keyboard shortcuts.  that should be sufficient.

Schism Tracker does also have extra mouse functionality that was originally very limited in Impulse Tracker.  IT would only really use the mouse for plotting volume/pan envelopes.

EXCITE.  looking forward to throwing down with the rest of you hep catz!!!!!!!                                        !

buzztracker is not a bad addition except in my experience it's among the harder pieces of software to maintain and is kinda crashey if you don't machines/VSTs that don't play nice.  also the later versions i believe get rid of the groundwork that makes it compatible with XP?

- schism tracker is good to have on your winXP machine though, it's basically an impulse tracker clone running off the modplug playback library.  that, or modplug tracker / OpenMPT.

- VSTHost is a program worth toying around with if you play around with your laptop to see if it's a viable effects rack for lives and stuff.

- i recommend using Google Drive for PC (the program, not the website) to have folders that potentially auto sync to folders on your other computers.  it's practically an instant-backup solution and you can work across different machines relatively easy.  this is what i use to keep my LSDJ SAV's consistent across all my computers running GB emulators.
