Thank you!  This post just reminded me that I have 3 Ti graphing calculators in my drawer that I've picked up at variousthrift stores and garage sales over the years.  I'm just missing  the Silver Link USB cable....  Anybody know where to find the data cable without breaking the bank?

I was going to say the same thing.  If you can upload the .NL2 file I'd be happy to test it out.

Milkytracker  should run on your hardware.

I went to the electronics shop today and they actually had some 1000uf 16v caps, but I've just tried to fit them in the case and they are physically too large.  I'll have to go back and see if I can find some smaller 5v ones that will hopefully fit better.

I can only find a 1000uF  50v locally.  Is 50v too big?

Added the external version to original post. Probably the simplest mod ever. I recommend to try this first and see if it makes a difference. Works great on both my GBA units.

Something funny is that on one of my old GBAs it doesn't have a battery cover that will properly stayed on.  One day I had my finger resting in the battery compartment and I noticed that if I touched the right spot it would eliminate some of the hum.  I guess accidentally I discovered what Oliver has shown here. Hahaha, go figure!

Lastly, this never gets stressed enough, but proper placement and room treatment will make a huge difference. There's plenty of youtube vids out there that can explain the scientifics of this for you better than I can smile

I got a pair of 8" monitors to avoid getting an additional subwoofer.  Try to get at least a 6" monitor or larger if it's within your budget. That's the advice I've always been given when this topic comes up.

Just finish spraying the primer nicely and keep it as is.  Put some stickers on the outside and some colofull buttons and I'm sure it'll look dope.  Learn from your mistakes and embrace them.

Does anybody have a picture of the gameboy color PCB with the 4.7uF cap installed?

If the GBC is prosound modded does this also boost the bass output there as well?

The truth is that more people had a Gameboy back in its primetime, and not as many people even had a chance to play Gamegear, and even less so the SMS. Most SMS/GG games used only the basic features of the chip, and not even the melodic noise portion. People do not realize what it can and can't do.

Also, a good musician can make good and powerful music out of anything. Even if limited to 3 square channels and monotonal white noise. Become a good composer, and you will make the SN76489 chip incredibly powerful.

Technical discussions aside, I would have to agree with this.  I am in my mid 30s and didn't know anybody growing up with a SMS.  GG and Genesis/Medadrives were everywhere though. As a newcomer to the chip music way of production, the game gear seemed like it would be the next 'go to' platform.  Pokemon drives gameboy prices up, while game gear prices are dirt cheap.  Perfect ingredient for hobbiest/musicians.

All in all, I am more enlightened on the subject.  Thank you gentlemen smile

+1 on leaving DMG speaker intact.  Post pot pro-sound for me.  When you plug headphones into the pro sound, the volume of the speaker goes WAY down making it barely noticeable.

It's easy to blow out the bass on NL, so using the built in speaker is a good test, like others have mentioned for monitoring your mix.

Dimming of the DMG backlight is a pain.  The best thing that I've found is to play with the contrast until you find that "sweet" spot.  I've been fooled a few times thinking my batteries were low, but it was just that my contrast pot had got bumped.

Oliver has 2.7 carts back in stock on his site.

Maybe that will help out.

Is there enough room at the bottom of the case, near the power switch, to mount a 3.5mm jack?  I more commonly see it done up top near the triggers.

I didn't realize the GG/SMS hardware was so weak. The lack of interest in home-brew development makes total sense. Did the SMS do FM via a special add on chip or am I making that up?
