I really recommend rolling off your sub-bass (stuff below 90Hz) as that usually will just muddy a track and cut through other more important frequencies. This is especially important on bass guitars or other bass instruments where you want to hear details in the sound (for a bass guitar you want to be able to hear the performance of it, not just a deep wub wub wub of bass frequencies).

THIS. A high pass filter will do the job nicely. If you find that it's rolling off too much of the bass, try using a notch filter instead to cut out a more narrow frequency that's muddying the mix. You can use frequency analyzer while auditioning the track to help you narrow down the frequency you're looking to cut or just sweep back and forth through the lower freqs until the freq you're looking to eliminate disappears. I sometimes find it necessary to do this when I have a high freq that's bothering me but don't necessarily want to roll off all or most of the highs with a low pass.

I have zero formal musical training. I think having listened to music daily and consistently since I was very young probably has more to do with cementing basic musical theory into my head than anything else. When I was little, my parents didn't buy "children's" music for me, they played me their own records and when I got old enough to work the record player on my own, that's the kind of thing I listened to.

I love this kind of stuff. Commonly heard while DXing! There are a lot of weird sounds out there on the airwaves.

Digital oscillators and analog filters, awesome! Just like the Novation Bass Station.

I have no idea what's happening, but I'm having the time of my life in this thread.

Sounds like a blast! Unfortunately, I can't help out very much being over here in the States, but feel free to use any of this music in your DJ sets if you see fit....

What a bitch move on his part. Probably set it up as a scam and never had any intention of modding them in the first place. Getting the police involved is usually on the bottom of my list as well, but as others have mentioned previously it's probably the best course of action at this point. Even if you don't end up getting your stuff back (did you write down serial numbers or anything before you sent them off?) at least you'll get some sort of retribution in the form of legal action.

On a lighter note...... $20 says it's Gnarsauce. ^.^;;;

My stuff has been on the russian sites since like 2007.  This is nothing new, they use MP3 sniffing bots, aggregate anything that has coherent tags, and sell it.

My stuff gets re-uploaded to those Russian sites frequently as well, they never try to sell it. Never really understood that, since most of my stuff is already free to download.

Thanks for the heads up VCMG. One of the few advantages to me not being very popular in the chip community is that this sort of thing never happens to me. ^_^;;;

Glad you'll still be able to make music of some kind. Best of luck in all of your endeavors!

I hereby pronounce this to be COMPLETELY AWESOME.

That's what I would recommend. Bending it would be a terrible waste of an instrument.

In addition to this great site and the aforementioned NoiChan there's also Extreme Sound Forum (they have a chip forum) as well as IDMforums and KVR forums (start a chip-related thead!)
