Pouet works really well and I think it's not the dead of anyone to get a thumb down. As I said, people CAN NOT like your stuff. What's bad at expressing it? Some times yu will know you will get an unnecessary one, but many times you can get something that really helps you develop your work. Pouet forces you to comment on your scoring, so usually a thumbs down comes accompanied by an explanation. They are not used a lot, also. People are very sensical about the usage.

I also concur that a tags system is much more useful for finding what you might want to hear. In that case a likes/thumbs system would be rendered pretty useless.

AWFUL reverb, I may add.
Whenever I hear yet another SNES tune with reverb I cringe tongue

Thanks Safari for killing m window when I was half way done hmm

I think there is a big NEED for people to check out stuff made 10/15 years ago or more, when it wasn't released as "albums". It's mostly unnoticed and this is a big mistake, but right now I am at work and can't compile a list of tunes that is not mostly SID music (stupid Mac doesn't play any exotic formats hmm).

Here's the releases I can think of at the moment:

AY Riders - ZX Spectrum Is Alive [8bitpeoples]
Bodenstandig 2000 - Maxi German Rave Blast Hits 3 [Rephlex]
Cow'p - Bass Experience [Independent]
Dorothy's Magic Bag - Viva La Revolution! [8bitpeoples]
Eat Rabbit - Kiss The Dolphin [Da! Heard It]
EvilWezil - Chronophobe [Pause]
Goto80 - Contech [8bitpeoples]
Goto80 - Made On Internet [Pingipung]
Goto80 - Papaya [Bleep Street]
Lo-Bat - Game Boy [retinascan/8bitpeoples]
Mini Roc - Miniland [Da! Heard It]
Mr. Blowfins - RMX [mp3death]
Mr. Spastic - Uber l33t n00b br34k5 [8bitpeoples]
Mr. Spastic - Claps and Leads [8bitpeoples]
Overthruster - The Greatest [mp3death]
Role Model - A New Fragrance [Retinascan/8bitpeoples]
Stu - Atari Solo [Retinascan]
Stu - Elements [Ubiktune]
The Hardliner - Russian Current [mp3death]
Tom Woxom - Kickstart [Da! Heard It]
USK - Dot Matrix Melodiator [Kill Club]
Various Artists - 8BP050 [8bitpeoples]
Various Artists - C6/4.20[09] [hexawe]
Various Artists - Dissed By The QFS [NORTHAMERICANHARDCORE]
Various Artists - Popstars [YM Rockerz]
Videovalvontaa - The End Is HNGH [Calmdownkidder]
x|k - Nestek [8bitpeoples]

Want some random goodness?
Go to this brilliant site, http://chiptune.com, and open Tools -> Random Chip... It will download to your hard drive a ZIP containing randomly selected tunes in many formats smile

Download the HVSC, Download the ASMA Collection, download Keygen Music... hear your roots, see where it came from, and stop pretending this started in 2006.

The main problem (or controversity) voting and charts have is that not everyone likes the same.

But that's how life is!
Some people like your stuff, some people don't. Why can't "artists" be mature enough to take this simple reality of our life as men (or women) and not get into sissy mode?
You want everyone to like your shit? Here's some news: it will never happen. You can't please every single person.
A little more realistic: you want lots of people to like your shit and it isn't happening? Then you are doing something wrong. IMPROVE towards your goal. People speak, read their signs and do something about it instead of becoming a pussy complaining wanker. Perhaps you don't give a fuck, and have other goals for your music-making. Or perhaps you want to quit. It's your choice, everyone has different goals regarding their artistic expression.

I would like it very much if the problems created by a likes system were negated by the users being mature enough about it.

I am of the way of pouet. I'd have neutrals, thumbs up and thumbs down. But that would bring to people lots of drama, specially the thumb downs...
I think having a Likes system is being frowned upon because of said drama.
I think  system can be implemented and with good moderation from the forum leaders it could work out and drama be non-existant.

And these were my 90s:

This could be interesting.I have a similar unit, an Intellivision Voice module.
I am not sure if it works though, i  never managed to hear it. Maybe the  amplifier circuit is broken.

ing like this and I admit its largely a semantic difference but forums are generally centered around a theme, in this case obviously chip music. "General Discussion" implies general discussion about said theme and off topic implies discussion about anything other than that theme.

It seems that it isn't the case, General Discusion IS off-topic, but without the completely uselesss silly shit.
Like, "here you can talk about other cool things", which is why I thought threads like the photography one should be there.

As far as I remember, most SNES tracks were mostly sample-based, so any tracker soft should do.

I just looked at the categories forum are splitted in, and maybe what would be cool is a few relocations of forums.
I am totally missing the point of the graphic design forum, to neme it'd be part of general talk (stuff people might want to talk about but it's not a core element of chipmusic).

It would be good that recent posts can be configured so certain forums are not shown (like a "show me all new messages but ignore this forum" sort of thing)

I am a graphic designer as well. That has nothing to do with the point I made.
It is not a parallel to chipmusic. Hairs, you guys are splitting big_smile
Just put itin General Discussion and it's fine, it's what that forum is about, isn't t?
