If you're talking about a "charts" kind of thing, fuck fuck fuck no big_smile

But if you're just talking about something like a system that allows you to "favorite" songs then hell yeah!

really though? i'm not asking this to be confrontational at all but how does the releases subforum not satisfy this? LOTS of albums, LOTS of bands/artists that i've never heard of before.

i'd actually be in favor of getting rid of the music section here altogether. with 8bc, you had a ton of people uploading works in progress, "my first lsdj" tracks, and generally a lot of stuff with a pretty low production value. if the emphasis on this site was just the releases section, it would kind of force people to take their stuff a little more seriously and generally up the professionalism a little?

not that there's anything wrong with sharing works in progress or "my first lsdj" tracks (i definitely posted my share on 8bc) but i'm just saying.

Very good point, I actually do download some releases from here.

A lot of my favourite artists don't make releases though, and I am not sure whether the removed music section would encourage them to either.

Maybe there are some really good artists out there holding back from releasing an e.p. because no one listens to them.

I think it's a good idea, but doesn't clench the intention of this thread.

The main con being that it is on the users profile. I don't ever visit other peoples profiles.

I want to hear new artists, it's not even a case of myself wanting to compete. I want new music and I am not finding it the way this site currently is. I feel some kind of rating might of helped this, however, I do now realize that it would NEVER work with this site. Just look at the responses. The people posting in this thread would never partake in such activity.

uB: You're right in that music views did cluster around popular guys, but the amount of NEW artists it brought to the table is also something to think about. I haven't listened to nearly as many new artists on this website as I would of while browsing 8bc for the same period of time.

ClairBear: The artist example you used to describe one making a mark would be one that used to chart on 8bc wouldn't it.

I feel without this, without this COMPETITION. we are all going to stick with the music we know. Nothing new is going to cross your ears, at least not from a new artist. We are turning into a circlejerking mess and it is why I suggested this.
