"It's apples and oranges, really. What sounds better is really subjective."

It's IOS, not apple (joke haha... ...i'm on linux lol... but also ipad because one thing was only on it...)
Yea of course I expected responses like that, and I totally agree. I just wanted to know what is the most practiced in the community. For example, I know in lsdj community, there is a consensus on the fact that real modded gameboys sounds better than emulators even if BGB is really good.

I know good lsdj and gameboys but I'm new for sega genesis and deflemask so I wanted to know what usually people do and if there is good modded hardware which can sounds better than software. But as I understand here, there are no such rules on sega genesis music because there is no comparable prosound mods for megadrive or modded megadrives which can be buying so for what I expect (no hum) deflemask tend to be better.

Generally I prefer make music on real hardware but for me it's for the most that I love make music with gamepad, A,B, cross direction etc... and bring with me the machines when I move. That's why I never compose on computer. I tryed to use a gamepad on deflemask on ipad but it don't seem to work. I'm more quickly with LSDJ.

@martin_demsky
For me it's real crashes of deflemask, I didn't tryed yet do something in the background but what you said remember me the garageband problems with inner-app. Close to every time I use inner-app, with a lot of differents softs, it allways stop playing garageband (it's very annoying). So normally I record on zoom h4n and then insert audio in garageband for don't have this problem.

For deflemask, it just sometimes completly crash without make something on the background, all freeze and I can do nothing except quitting it and restarting. One time I even lost my last steps of work.

@TetrisEffect
Yea it works very well, I updated my 1rst message as I wanted to write it works good on pocket go v2. On v1 I couldn't make enough test for know. You have a .opk available on dingonity forum (search for lgpt opk in google)

I had to install the rogue filesystem in RG350 for save works good. The firsts time I used it there was little lags (but usable) but I didn't seen it again since a long time and I continue make music on LGPT on RG350. And did the same on Pocket Go V2 I have one too. I use more RG350 because my pocket Go V2 was not new and the buttons must be hard pressed...

Hum... it do the same I can't see none of all these protracker2.3d file in uae4all. Do you use uae4all too and you with which protracker version?

I unzipped protracker, maybe i have to use .zip instead?

@martin_demsky
Do you have also crashes on ipad Deflemask? If not that's maybe because I use a lot noise channel and commands on it, and perhaps i'm the only one haha...

for mega sg I think I will buy it only if I succeed make something in megadrive programming, but that's so hard (because of the fm synthesis and because the exemples on internet about sounds are often in assembly...) that I don't know if I will continue trying. Or maybe I will buy also mega sg if native MD TRACKER project will fix some problems.

I have genMDM too, I use it with arduinoboy + gameboy, but that's complicate to set up, I had good results but after stoping doing it since 3 weeks, I forget completly the complicated parameters and I don't know if I want to write a manual and read it every time I want to make music with it... at a time I used it also with organelle, I made a patch for using it with it (it should be a duplicate if I bought jamatar's tool).

I discover with deflemask a different approach which is also very interesting

@tubesockor
I'm trying to launch protracker, but I can't see it. I installed bios, I select disk image, and go on the folder where protracker is but I can't see it

I use uae4all.opk , proTracker v3.62 ( http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=13364 ) and Kickstart1.3.rom + workbench31.adf

@Cyberic Thank's for your response!

I have to take a look of this audio mod for megadrive 2.
I also thought about buying a sega sg from analogue. Do you know if there is hum on it or not?

That's just an idea, maybe I will stay on emulator, the thing I like the most on the real hardware is creating chiptune directly on it. (Maybe with MD TRACKER if this project continue and fix the save state and nonstop sound issue) and also test things about programming for megadrive. Make a song on pc or ipad and use megadrive only for play it isn't so interesting for me except if there are a sound quality interest

Sayed that I noticed several bugs on deflemask on ipad. There are a lots of crash.

About the long note I heard, it's something in the high, an instrument seems to be continuing or the highest frequencies of it.
I have to try listen vgm format on PC.

The export from my ipad deflemask is .gen I expected a .bin but it seems to be normal as .gen as there is only save rom, save vgm or save wav available and when I choose save rom the format is .gen

Hi,

I started using deflemask a few days ago. And I'm wondering : does the sound is really better on real hardware? I have a megadrive 1 and the everdrive x7 flashcard. So I listened what I did on deflemask on my megadrive 1, but I can hear a "hum" on the real hardware and some instruments are too long (this can probably fixed with note off)

These who use deflemask, do you generally record on real sega genesis/megadrive or export directly to wav via emulator?

I'm just talking about the sound quality, not about the cool thing of play it with megadrive. I didn't compare yet with my monitor sound system yet but I yould like to know what people usually do.

PS : I use deflemask on an ipad, it sounds very good

Is there room for one more? I'd like to contribute to this collaboration.

I think nothing already started here, so everyone can participate :-)

I don't know how it will start... If it was me, I am always searching voice for integrating to my chiptunes, or searching chiptune for integrate my real instruments on. (Or combo chiptune + chiptune, 1/2... lol... = everything can be done)

I tested MD TRACKER on my megadrive 1 with everdrive x7, and it works good except 2 things :

- a square sound is present additionnaly to FM channels, when you create note and play it for the first time. It's on the same note that the note created but it's still played after you stop the tracker. So it become impossible to have a silence :-) I tested to put a note off at first row in every else channels, and the note is still played so it's seems to don't come from the accessible channels.

- the save state : after saving on everdrive x7 by pressing down+start and select save state, after rebooting if I load the save state, all the values on main screen are here but not the notes inside. It seems to erase it when entering in each note page because I can see notes from 1/2 seconds before it disappear. I don't know if there is an other way to save on the tracker i'm discovering it. According to MD TRACKER.txt it seems not for now.

Just for say that I edited my message above :

MD tracker works good with picodrive (not on last emulator version). You just have to set input controller to 6 buttons, not 3 in emulator settings (if not you can't go to notes page). And don't forget to add an instrument on note page

ok, thank's for the link and explanations, I will test some trackers in the list.

- Sidwizard on VICE : works. But configuring controller is really a pain (and sidwizard is a pain to configurate too...) so I don't know if it can actually make a sound or not. It looks like working good but I can't insert a new instrument. Maybe someone with a better knowledge of sidwizard and VICE should succeed (if so says how you did please :-) )

Your first link gives a 404 error. For other link i can see only music tracks which can be played with sid? (Maybe i don't understand simething)

I don't know if it's the right place for that because it's not a nintendo handheld but...

(Normally if it works on rg-350 it works also on pocket go v2 and vice versa bacause they are close)

If people can also test for confirm or not what i'm saying that should be great :-)

- [ OK ] LGPT works very well on RG350 and pocket go v2 (on pocket go v1 t's supposed to run good too, but I couldn't make enough test on it as my pocket go v1 which I received (new) was broken, audio jack and usb didn't works... anyway for me the screen on pocket go v1 is much too small, I think I couldn't works on it for long time even if all worked good).

I had to install ROGUE on RG350 for save and import sample works on LGPT.

- YMDJ emulated on picodrive 1.96 works but can't start the sequencer (same problem on linux emulator, don't tested on windows).

- Prodigy : emulated on picodrive 1.96, works but sound is buggy

- [ OK ] MD TRACKER emulated on picodrive 1.96 works! (in picodrive settings, you have to set input controller : 6 buttons instead of 3 for access note page, if not x, y and z button will not work. I thought becoming crazy before discover that...)

- maxymiser on dacastaway : not loaded

- starkos on amstrad (arnold emulator) : not loaded

- lsdj : works good on gb emulator

@tubesockor : great! Says if you find a way! I tryed an amiga tracker which didn't work (i don't remember which one, i am just testing every tracker i found which can work with rg 350).

But I will create a new thread  for that :-)

Thank's orgia I am checking that :-)

@Corthax : with which cartridge your tracker is currently working? Only everdrive ×7 or less expensive ones?

Hello,

What's the last version downloadable of this project? I tested an old ymdj file which can be launched but i can't find how to start the sequencer. I tested prodigy, the sound works but it's buggy (I know it's not finished, I say that just for others know)

For testing chaos tracker, the github is a little confusing for me, does we have to compile it for test it? It's in assembly right? In docs I didn't find instruction of how to compile just what should be done is written.
