Every single person complaining about there not being a scene trust me there is no scene because you haven't made one...

this is why I've been involved with 8static since its inception.  It draws people from far away to come here and share their ideas... which in turn gives everyone a lot inspiration here in Philly.  Sharing actually makes you more creative, so these communities we're talking about are just as important as our individual creations.  virtual communities are good but actual physical communities follow through with fighting a revolution.  If you don't like the way your town views chip music - change it.

with the gameboy color at one point i actually put a NES controller port on the side of the breakout box so i could have a d-pad if i wanted.  That worked really really well.  Never got that far with the original DMG though.  It was handy for composing.

i can give you some tips - there is some info missing on my site right now...  basically stuff i figured out after i wrote the article - i should update it.  You need to use some signal diodes and a battery for the original DMG.  the gb color doesn't need any extra components.... gb color is way easier if you're testing.  Did Johan's updates decrease the latency with the keyboard?

All of these places have awesome scenes in America - i know from first hand experience:

Boston - NYC - Philly - Austin - Rochester

There are many other places too, but based on my experiences these places seem to have a lot to offer...  awesome and inspiring people all over the place!  It makes it easier to formulate and work on ideas being close to other creative people.  Its something that anyone trying to be creative should consider.

Also, the geographical makeup a city can also effect creativity levels etc.  So, sometimes it's not the people's fault there isn't any good shit - it might be the layout of the town that will fuck you (of course the internet can let you reach slightly farther out now).  But more person to person contact will spark more ideas for sure.  So, if you have a city thats designed to keep people away from eachother, that will usually lead to less creativity.  it's scientific fact actually...  although i'm sure the internet lessens the impact of the phenomenon.

I hear a good song, get inspired

yeah - listening to music or talking about it with someone else will always get stuff moving inside the brain.  - i get tons of ideas from talking with dino lionetti (from cheap dinosaurs) or from talking to Chipocrite or an0va or some of the cool people on here

I find that i also get motivation from non-musicial stimuli or visual art in my environment...

when i feel stuck i change mediums - try to draw, program, etc.  that usually works because it lets your mind focus on functioning a different way - when you come back to music you feel fresh.

but...  most creative outpourings happen when you are relaxed and not letting your Logic side dictate things too much.

A scientific study found that jazz musicians turn the logic center of their brain off when they're improvising - maybe try to turn the logic off so you can get some crazy shit flowing through your dome.

Here's a great book with some enlightening things about creativity:  http://www.amazon.com/Imagine-Creativit … 0547386079
