I guess it should have custom pcb with socketed ic ike this one.

Re: Guitar Hero Synth? (8 replies, posted in Other Hardware)
I'd start with making it into midi controller. I'd be actually very easy to do with arduino - just connecting a few switches and writing small sketch to read em and ouput coresponding midi note. Read up on arduino & midi / diy arduino midi controller etc.

Re: SP 303 or Sampletrax (8 replies, posted in Other Hardware)
I'd go for 303 but that's just because I had 202 before and I really liked it (never used it much though). Sampletrak seems like nice machine. It all depends on what kind of interface you need (sequencer? midi?) what kind of sound quality are you expecting and what kind of price range are we talking about.

Oh, nevermind. I thought you meant 2.0 aboy software not just the box.

Thanks for the info!
Are there any interesting new features in the 2.0 version?

It doesn't bother me it's only 8 but I was wondering why they didn't do 16. Pretty sure it's not because of memory issues.
also - they plan the release on summer and stuff like this might be tweaked a little

Speaking of which, its TOTALLY DOABLE if someone wanted to modify aboy code to just send out cv out the pwm ports afaict. Just SAYIN.
I was actually thinking the same only with DAC.

If you want to send notes and CCs from gameboy to hw synth (not only midi clock) then you are looking for arduinoboy version with MIDI-OUT mode. You'll also need specific LSDJ version supporting this.

Re: Has this ever been done? - DMG hardware synth (21 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
Synthoby's form kind of repels me for some reason.
This is what I was thinking about:
I would make some changes to the design today but it'd look more or less like this. The keyboard is supposed to be like the one stylophone has (was too lazy to model the keys separatelly). Those 3 recatngles left from the keyboard are pitch bend touch points.

Re: Has this ever been done? - DMG hardware synth (21 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
Could't you just use a midi controller with whatever potentiometers that you fancy?
Sure. What I suggested could be compact form solution which (I guess) is what OP was looking for.
I was actually thinking about doing something similar - replacing gameboys top side with panel with pots and stylophone-like keyboard. And get rid of the front pcb of course. I've got a render of the device somewhere - will post if I find it.

Re: Has this ever been done? - DMG hardware synth (21 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
Is it possible to do what I'm saying with just an Arduinoboy?
You'd have to hack the code to read potentiometers / switches instead of incoming midi data. Or add another arduino reading the sensors and transimiting midi to arduinoboy. Basically making a midi controller.

ashimoke wrote:I'm not really sure but I think LSDJ needs the midi start message to start playback. Which is not the case whan you have constant midi clock stream while loading new song.
I do not follow. Would you care to clarify? Do you mean that LSDj does not need the start message (e.g. from ableton) to start playback when a new song is loaded, if the previous song already received the start message? That is not my experience.
Well, exactly the oposite. I'm saying you NEED the start message to get LSDJ sequencer running. When you load new project it doesn't get any kind of start message because ableton has started long ago. You could try to send start message after loading your new project / song. As herr_prof suggested you should send note number 48 (C2) for start.
Try to hook up your midi keyboard to computer, start ableton sequencer, load new song in LSDJ (you'll probably have to press start now so you get into the WAITING mode), make sure you have it in SLAVE mode and then hit C2 on your midi keyboard. Or you can send the C2 from ableton, doesn't matter. It should work. If you are getting some kind of sync then I wouldn't blame the hardware.

You should describe your problem in more detail.
Also - you set the sync mode for each song separately. Make sure you've got the right mode when you load the new one.
