Yep, Bassnectar puts on the best shows.  I like is stuff way more than "real" dubstep.  I saw him at a couple of All Goods, and his was the only decent show at one of them, unless you are into listening to surviving members of the Grateful Dead.

Bassnectar is real dubstep. There's just a backlash against mid-range basslines. I like the shit out of Nero. More often though I listen to stuff like on Hotflush. Anyway...

liiike Mount Kimbie Scuba and Ramadanman? i wouldn't call them dubstep myself but i love their sound. i guess if you had to you could say it was 'clean' dubstep or something stupid like that. Nero had some great tunes, pretty much the only trance flavored music i would ever listen to.

Ah Cartoon Bomb, i have friends who go to All Good like every year, never went myself, was never into the whole acoustic stoner jam band scene. Bassnectar is very awesome though, his music doesn't exactly fit into any one category which is nice.

fuck the purists Bassnectar is the shit. Seeing him next month i believe. WHO WANTS DRUGS lol
and i wish Skream came to the states more often

btw, isn't chipmusic inherently not cool and not trendy, simply cause it's nerdy? or is it ironically cool now?

well free publicity in any event

Well let's put some tracks together..
I think with dubstep though there has to be some kind of instrument variation, rather than solely chip. I've heard lots of great chipstep tracks that are quite low-fi and pushing the hardware to the limits of dirt, but you gotta mix a little something extra in there to kick you in the balls when the drop ...erm....drops

true true, though i like a lot of dubstep made with the gameboy because it just naturally has this very lofi gritty grimey sound to it.
but the 8bit dubstep i've heard has been either produced with something like ableton or just on a gameboy in lsdj, not much experimentation as far as hardward goes. i'd love to hear some made with c64.

it does really piss me off though how many people just make passable dubstep tracks in lsdj. it feels like some people are just trying way too hard to be popular so they just follow the fucking fads around here. just wish dubstep wasn't a fad, like idk, if people just made it seriously because they like the music instead of just writing a couple tunes because they want people to like them, then i would probably really dig it

personally, i would love to hear a dnb chiptune mix, i've heard songs here and there (a couple Bitshifter tunes, some of Sabrepulse's later stuff, random 8bc songs i can't remember the names of), but not like a full set of em. maybe some with a sound a bit like Dillinja.

btw, if anyone can write a chiptune in a Burial-esque style, that would be fucking incredible

Once you've heard one wub, you've heard them all.

("wub" can be replaced with "chiptune," btw)

eh, you kinda need to listen to the full genre before you judge

Dubstep today is completely different to what it was 2 years ago, which period are you talking about?

all this new robotic brostep stuff (some of which i really like), not the older more chill Skream and DMZ tunes, though by all means i would love to hear some of those filtered through 8bits.

Within 2005-6 roughly, there were dubstep tracks that got me really excited. Not all dubstep, but it's not necessarily what was made then associated with the genre sounds like dubstep of 2010. I also assumed in 2005-6 that I had to obtain everything I could get into. Hundredfold tracks made in 2010 as apposite to then. There's no way to obtain everything like I did before. And... maybe it's not as good as 2005-6?

As for chiptune dubstep, I mean specifically dubstep not dub, I can't think of some.

a couple of my tunes have had a dubsteppish bassline and drums. Cheapshot's stuff is almost purely dubstep, i would say, though you'd have to give a listen to tell.

(yes, I do have two tunes on Metrodub)

yes, but Metrodub is dub, not dubstep, just sayin tongue
though your tunes were awesome!

kinda agree with you 4mat, though i also feel like there are some people out there who can do it really well. And then there are others who well, can't really do it at all

i think i may need a new soul after this one. anyone got spares?

ok, let's do this: what are Chipmusic's thoughts on Chiptune Dubstep aka Chipstep aka wubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubthatssickmatewubwubwubwubwubwub

i know a couple of chiptuners make some really nice tunes, like UnicornKid and Cheapshot, but how do ya'll feel?

be brutally honest

Perhaps I just bristle at the term after hearing guys like Burial/Deadmau5/Justice/Daft Punk/SebastiAn be referred to as geniuses by stoned/otherwise impressionable teenagers, when they simply make feelgood music.

wow, i feel trolled. how the fuck did u put burial in the same category as those guys? he definitely does not just make 'feelgood' music.
but whatever, maybe i just put him on too high a pedestal.
also, in a lot of cases, i find myself liking an 8bit artist not because of the style or genre but more because of some of unique sounds they can get out of the gameboy.. zanzan, what u mean about their songwriting capability? do u mean their attention to the verse chorus pop formula, or do u mean more like their knowledge of music theory or wha?

edit: fuck
