DS, SNES, these acronyms man. What can you do? Haha. I hope you can get things back on track, I've always wanted to come visit Boston and see you and the Boston8bit crew live. Unfortunately my only DS has a shattered top screen, not much to do with that huh.
Yo I totally understand. My girlfriend was with me when I wrote the post, and she was like " DMG EMS NDS DS SD?? what the hell, you are making that up right??" haha.
Thx Beverage, you are welcome in Boston man, let us know if you're ever in the area and we'll set something up ;D
Smedium & Lady Smedium
I've got a DS Lite in good condition, I'd be willing to trade for the EMS Cart. Haven't used it in a while, but I can't seem to locate the stylus. D:
PM'd!!!!
Edit: I didn't see you were after a DS, but anyway......

Bent stuff for music and/or live visuals perchance? I'd be willing to ship of a bent SNES for your shindig.

GAH. a recent cart-tastrophe requires me to change my live set up a bit....
I have:
an excellent condition backlit & prosound greyboy DMG w/ 2nd 1/8" & rocker switch
a brand new, in box 64m EMS USB cart
I require:
a nintendo DS in decent condition
a DS SD flashcart
i would prefer to swap all for all, but let see what pops up. I'll also accept cash OF COURSE
;D
bizarre update.
Here is an odd thing: when i got my cart back from kitsch, i booted it up on my DMG a few times, and nothing... johan screen of death. Then i put it in my CGB, just so i didn't misplace the cart. later I randomly turned on the CGB to show my GF the dead cart screen, and MY FRIGGIN .SAV LOADED. the first 10 or so lines in the tracker screen were glitchy on playback and had to be re-done, but the rest of my song files were fine and i was able to recover all my friggin tracks....
WEIRD.
i'm paranoid it will fail again, so i recorded all the tracks (i dont have a transferrer) and won't touch the cart until i get my smartboy & transferrer and see if i can get the saves off.
?!?!?!?!
(And with my upcoming LittleFM file manager, sorry for the wait, it'll be possible to store up to 8 full 128 kB savs in flash memory, which is truly stable in every respect, on any bleepbloop or smartboy cartridge.)
thanks for the excellent info nitro, i was really considering the infinity cart... i probably would have bought 3, but perhaps ill wait and see. Also- the file manager is going to be a HUGE DEAL, and I can't wait until its out.
My favorite use of live mode has been to introduce songs live by slowly piecing them together. Kind of remixing my own songs/life on stage as a lead up to the original structure.
this, totally. every performance can be different!!!
a fun live mode technique I've been really enjoying is writing "vamp sections" using a bit of aleatory ;
with pu1, pu2 and wav, write a few chains of various lengths using long melodies with generally the same harmonic material, then let 'em loose over a beat and blend accordingly. if the length of the melodies are different enough, and you just let them all cycle through at various times, you can get amazing "resultant" harmonic/melodic textures that you never would have planned for... if you are clever with volume envelopes, the mix of tones / melodies and registers can be quite beautiful, string quartet-like...
further, to create easy polyrhythm for these, write a few chains with different rhythmic lengths using the "H" command in the tracker screen. the chain with the hop will cycle its length simultaneously with the rest of the "song" screen still running straight 16th notes in 4/4, giving you a wacky, shifting groove. (i suggest being subtle with this, otherwise it can sound like utter shite)
Its extremely easy to get brain-bending grooves going if you throw, say, a 5/8 drum ostinato under the "resultant melody" technique i mentioned in the first section. also, its totally surprising and awesome to listen to because although you wrote the individual sections, hearing the material overlap in unexpected ways creates its own sort of organic "structure". try it, really ;D
