Facebook Event Page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=1 … amp;ref=ts

Chiptune is a geeky, underground flavor of electro/rock/dance music that uses exclusively old video game hardware for a distinctive sound. Everything from Nintendos, Game Boys, Segas, and Commodore 64s are retrofitted into live performance synthesizers and used either solo or with live instruments and vocals. More of a method of performing music than a genre, a live Chiptune set can range from dance music to electro folk to pure art/noise music.

Featuring:

Zen Albatross (NYC) http://www.myspace.com/zenalbatrossmusic & http://zenalbatross.net/
Zen Albatross is a chipmusician, artist and blogger from Brooklyn, NY who likes to write about art, airships, bleeps, bloops and other swell things. His music is amazing.

MisfitChris (CT) http://www.myspace.com/misfitchrismuzik Hailing from Connecticut, USA, Misfitchris started off playing his Casio keyboard alongside SNES games in a valiant effort to mimic his favorite video game composers. He quickly grew fond of this sound and in an unyielding attempt at perfection began his current project he has aptly dubbed “Fakebit . MisfitChris has a sound that will conjure up feelings from days of old, like leaving final fantasy 3 on just to hear the music and the feeling of being the only one in the world to defeat the boss all rolled into a precise, masterfully crafted sonic eargasm.

Br1ght Pr1mate (Boston) http://www.brightprimate.tk/
Probably the most famous Gameboy & Vocal duo in the world ever, Br1ght Pr1mate blends rock, dance, art, electro, noise, pop (and whatever else they feel like) to make music that is right at home on your favorite space ship. Their Boston 8-Bit antics have garnered them national media attention and even an unlikely live performance on "the most evil television station of all time": FOX NEWS

Active Knowledge (MA) / http://www.activeknowledgemusic.com/
"It's not so much the preservation of youth, as the celebration of it," says Chris Mahoney, better known in creative circles as Active Knowledge. Firing notes through an original Nintendo Entertainment System, the Active Knowledge mixes vintage video game sounds with synchronized glitchy, spastic visuals. The idea is unadulterated fun, with a focus on the unadult. Active Knowledge’s debut album “Pyramid Neon  is available to download for free on his site.

Disasterpeace (Boston) http://www.disasterpeace.com/
Travel through deep forbidden forests and the far reaches of space! Disasterpeace is a curious form of chipmusic that blends progressive rock, minimalist, jazz, and dance tendencies with an aesthetic sensibility that pays homage to the sounds of the past yet that is largely synthesized from the ground up... He’s kind of a big deal, too:http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1917577,00.html

Visuals by VJ Beyonder (Salem) and Invaderbacca (NYC) and Chiptune Open Mic featuring SO MANY SPECIAL GUESTS!!!

also this probably means i'm gonna try to weasel my way into doing an hour long set

DO IT.

and take pics too

So, in what was basically a perfect storm of bad luck... a depressingly fatalistic rube-goldberg-like machine of injuries, car problems, missed flights and complete and utter FAIL, its going to be impossible for the us, active knowledge and disasterpeace to make it down for the Chicago show.

Anyways, there are still 5 ABSOLUTELY AWESOME artists on the bill. So go there and rock out. Im going to paypal Matt Mongelia a bunch of cash so you guys can all get drunk, curse our names, and have a good time on us! Also, to the crews that were driving from St. Louis, MSG me cause I have a bunch of cool stuff to send you from all of us.

whoo! And even that was a battle, hah. With i fight dragons doing a big cd release show, the "chiptune press" in chicago was pretty saturated for the weekend. So WERE STILL UNDERGROUND YALL.
