Loading presets/patches of one instrument is fast, you can switch them even during song (I would do this when the instrument doesnt get any data sent in), switching to different bank with different VSTs take something like 1-2 seconds. But you can put 4 different VSTs to one bank. For example I have Drumatic on first channel, Mellotron vst on 2nd and then couple of VA-synths. And if I can change patches to every one of those, I rarely have the need to change banks.

Sadly I've mostly been experimenting with the ones installed + Chipsounds for now so I cant say too much about other plugins. Every VST needs its own wizard file for installing it, havent looked yet on how complicated doing those would be. Overall the performance is pretty good, some pads and chords can cause glitches (pretty hi-freq buzzing sound) if they have lots of delay on them etc. But for more chip-kind of stuff I think the box is pretty good. If you have any particular plugin that is free and is featured on the list of supported ones, I can try it out.

Heres the link:

You can also download their free software there to test out different configs on your computer! Of course it doesnt tell anything about the performance, but gives you good idea about the software, which is the biggest minus for me.

I got Chipsounds working reasonably well, but on Mac I have to warn you, using their software editor is pain in the ass. It runs on top of Wine or something like that, so registering Chipsounds was kinda hard.

Otherwise, its easy to setup the midichannels that it receives etc.

I have more experience with other plugins. Biggest cons are that you have to make presets on the computer and without some Midi controller (I have Akai LPD8) with it, you cant tweak sounds live. Of course you can send CC thru midi but I have been too lazy to configurate those to MPC. E-Phonics Lo-Fi is included and preinstalled, also lots of cool virtual analog synths that have bleepy buzzing sounds. I've had it just over a month for now so Im no expert with it yet.

Its not as sucky as every review says, and I got it for under 200e so I think it was pretty good deal:)

Make a nice small tabletop version with some filters and possibility to tweak incoming midi signals with transposing / arpeggiators etc  and I would be interested.

Thanks guysss! I'll faceplant happily some locations in Berlin too!

Hello people! I'm looking for a gig around 30th of march in Berlin. Anybody know any connections? I have very possibly one gig on 30th but +-2 days from that could work out.

I have a 4 track EP coming out at 5th of February through Mässy Records.

Take out a sheet of paper.

Rank the likelihood that you would download a new EP from an artist you've never heard of, from the following sources:

- A netlabel you know & follow
- A netlabel you know & don't follow
- A netlabel you've never heard of
- A bandcamp page of an artist you've never heard of

I think you'll have your answer.

My personal 1st answer is bandcamp-page, everything else is at same level. Every net label have their own way of distributing mediafire links or god knows what or their players are flawed one way or another. One reason is that I mainly listen new music by streaming and only download music that I really like, Im on 40mb/s for the best part of the day but cant always dl stuff.

Besides, tons of "real" small labels release their digital stuff through bandcamp too. I'm all for standards on these kinds of stuff. If a label wants to have their own site, cool, but in reality everything would be easier through these really good services (Bandcamp, that other one like it, Soundcloud, etc) and info sent straight to our facebook666-pages. Many really nice netlabels exist, but its no way the only way for good exposure.

If I write more than one song in a week, can I roll those extra songs over into the next week?

Did you read the FAQ on weeklybeats.com ?

BAh, I read the FAQ already when I signed up. Could swear that "Note: You can not submit a song for a week that has past, or for a week in the future." was added later:)

Can I upload stuff late?

Because I know theres couple of times Im not around computers for a week or so but would have some musical equipment with me anyways to write the song.

I need this device. Right NOW. Seriously really cool, I have been thinking about building something like this, but just as a controller.

Looks cool, but MPCs strong points are not the shape of buttons, its the whole workflow and ui in itself.. And unless I miss something pretty significant from LSDJ, this is far from MPC.

But I guess with some clever arduino usage + arduinoboy + something like Akai MPD could work.. I really love use my mGB with MPC.

But still, really cool and good job, looking forward how this develops!
