that sounds fucking awesome! but who is evil wezil and why is he top billed?

I look at my face in the mirror every morning and ask myself the same thing.

As far as the location goes- the artists did not put this together, it was put together FOR us by our friends at GM4A, and we sure as shit aren't gonna say NO to somebody doing all the brunt work of organizing our shit for us... (especially when the venue is 5 minutes from my work...) We're more than grateful to our hosts for having us, it'll be a great show, yadda yadda and stuff.

We have been in talks about getting the general LA scene better organized, finding a good place to have regular if not monthly events in a more densely populated location. We certainly have the manpower for it, and awesome shows like this will serve as further motivation to do fun music thing stuff and whatnot, boy howdy.

Do feel free to pester us about it on a regular basis though. I say this without any sarcasm. I do sincerely hope that 2011 will be the year LA "Blows Up" as the whacked up kids are saying, since that leaves us one full year of awesome before the apocalypse.

These are all absolutely incredible. Just fucking wow. Without having looked at the challenges, I heard the first three seconds of Fighting Food with Fire and thought "...dragonforce?" Then the lyrics came and I thought, "Dragonforce!" Total success in every way!!

Tune in to KSPC (streamed at http://www.kspc.org/) this friday for the video game music show from 4-6PM PST. I will be a guest and will be playing a live set to close out the show. I will be playing the completed version of "Floater," my highly unreleased 15-minute single song isometric EP.
(http://8bitcollective.com/music/EvilWez … ogress%29/)
I will also hopefully be playing some new songs featuring vocals and electric autoharp, all processed and synthy and grand. These also are highly unreleased.
So tune in for a nice big block of old game tracks and new tunes. DO IT.

I always do my mix in gameboy and record the whole mess out all together. I've been mastering/remastering tracks to get a little more umph out of them, mostly with compression and selective EQ. I make most of my kicks using a sine wave, so they sound meaty on the woofer, but learned they don't come through at all on shitty desktop speakers. It really helps to give those kicks some high end so they stand out from the bassline.
I studied audio for film, not music, so I'm kinda having to re-tool my understanding of how compression and EQ are used for this. I'm so used to compressing natural audio like dialogue and having to be all carefull with it... But MAN... you can compress the HELL out of electronic music without really losing tonal quality. Especially when its as lo-fi as gameboy tracks. I've had to be careful not to get carried away cus there's really nothing stopping you from going completely overboard.

Bump bump bump come come come!

In addition to the mysterious downtown warehouse party I'm playing on Valentine's Eve (The details of which even I don't know), and Pizza and Chips 2 (http://8bitcollective.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=18005) I am also opening for my friend's band Kazai Rex (http://www.myspace.com/kazairex) at the Unknown Theater.

Perplexingly, my set as an opener is 40 minutes. 10 minutes longer than usual... Huh... Bitchin'.

Come get some, LA.

I got it for christmas and have been peeking at it every now and then.
One thing it says is that the sounds and music you listen to in your developing teen years remain the sounds and music that have the highest affect on you throughout the rest of your life. It creates a kind of memory imprint that will always send impulses directly to pleasuretown in your brain.
Certainly explains my fascination with the genre.

"What kind of music do you make" is an easy question, cus you can start with the TYPE of music and work your way back to the CREATION of it- IF you feel like it.
"Oh, what instrument do you play?" now THAT is the hard one. The dual uses of the word "play" cause a serious issue.
Let's compare two phrases:
1) "I play bass" (as in, "I cause music to come from an instrument, immediately demanding your respect and possible panties")
2) "I play the gameboy" (as in, "I control fictional characters all day for lack of a satisfying personal life. I am a fucking loser, please shoot me in the face and walk away. You will not be prosecuted.")
I got "What instrument do you play?" the other day on the subway. I just said "Gameboy" followed by "...that wasn't a joke." and didn't bother explaining further... Whatever, neither of us were wearing pants, I wasn't trying to impress anybody.
