the tags need to be search able in a search bar.
I agree.
I also think it would be a good idea to show the tags of every track in the actual list. That will bring some way of relating to the record (8bc has its likes/views columns).

also im confused on how the interface is complicated or confusing? there are 3 options and a list.
Joule you are just being nit picky at this point. it's already xtimes better than some other site and it JUST LAUNCHED.
No. I think those are relevant suggestions. The site is not better from a user experience pov. 8BC has its simplicity, focus and clear ideas that attracts attention.
Well.. I don't think there will be a tendency to change things radically once they have been implemented. That's why I thought i wasn't skipping ahead too much.

There's nothing wrong with the forums. It has a standard structure.
I think the music sections layout and navigation should be a lot more intuitive, but i guess that's coming. At the first glance I hardly understand what i can do there, and maybe It's partly due to the color scheme. The layout and functions should be clear to anyone within "10 seconds" imo.
A very small specific example (maybe you have planned to change it):
The tag system should be introduced somewhere directly, so people get a sense of what is possible to do and how you navigate. Either by showing the tags in the list, or having tag search in the top search. The tags are only visible at the song page today, and it's a function you don't want to have to search for everytime you need it (if you ever even discovered it).

What about having the perspective of making the site browsable/usable to, say, a person coming from google not even being involved in chip music from before. My opinion is that such a person should get a good impression of what's on here as possible. Not because it matters, but because this approach makes the site better in general.

Yes i also like the idea of bookmarks subscription. Or something similar.
I interpret bookmarks just as "i want to remember this for later". Also it would still require people to browse around here trying to find music - the bookmarks needs to be created at some point.
Joule:
Didn't you actually say that you wanted no likes system when the music uploading was mentioned?
I don't. I see two options for making a site interesting enough for me (i e finding music i want to listen to), and that is 1) likes, 2) gated quality control. I was hoping there might be a third option.
I'm not sure you're derailing it, arlen. Being user friendly could also be a key point to people wanting to return. Making it easy and convenient to browse and listen to music is probably very important in that case.
Thank you Lazerbeat.
I don't think the big issue is so much about this or that feature, but about the site being unique and having something that makes people want to return.
Ok, I'm looking forward to seeing what the things mentioned in "third" will bring.
Fourth is irrelevant.
Ok, this site will have a problem, or at least it will never 'take off' in its current state. After browsing 15 or so tracks, i find that the quality is similar to that of 8BC. This is not a problem, except for the fact that on 8BC you could click on the ones having most likes, which is a bias but also very helpful.
I realize that for me to find anything good here, I will have to actually play all the tracks and it would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. There is no indication whatsoever of what might be of interest. This will probably make me never really browse or use the music section.
Am I missing something, or is this the way it's supposed to be? It won't work very well..
Nice .. quote from irc.
[15:28] <joule> trash80, nice thing.. i would like the modal box to have a clear (white) border around it.. eyes get a little confused when it blends to the background
[15:31] <joule> trash80, also.. it would be much better using the newer version of the flash player (which is expanded by default) having VOLUME control!
What will thumbs be used for? Aren't they kind of useless, as you can just type "great" (and hopefully something else) in the comments?
I would like an ignore button .. i find it rather tiresome being on forums with people writing 4chan onelines (like the ones we've just seen), and it would be awesome being able to ignore those doing it notoriously.
A forums shouldn't be attention whoring chat. A very nice rule for forums actually is "stay on topic". It might sound harsh to some, but it gets the job done imo. If you want to chat, get on irc.esper.net #chipmusic?
I usually do something similar when using reverb or delay, but more deluxe imo.
Use a BP filter with some slight LFO changing the frequency parameter. This adds life and I think it helps the mix a little bit by the psychoaccoustic benefits of something dynamic.
