The one thing I'd like to see is a more natural setup between a handheld and another midi enabled device.  MIDI=>GBs are great but big and clunky.  Oliver's usb stick requires usb, and thus, big clunky computer.

I just want to take a freakin' cable, plug it into my game boy advance, and have the other end of the cable be male MIDI.

Looking for less common editions of Oliver's software.  Willing to pay cash for old nano carts, or trade merch from the shop for it.

Not digging 1.x?  I'll exchange it for a brand new copy of 2.6 with manual.

I want it as a collector of all things nano, honestly.

I have 2.1, 2.2. 2.3, 2.5.1, 2.6, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.6 (nano one).  I need 2.0, 1.1 and 1.5 to "complete the set", so to speak, not counting the really rare versions like 0.8, which only had 100 made and wasn't even a "nanoloop cart" as we know it, just a modified flash cart, and 1.2b, which was normal 1.2 save for the fact that pressing certain buttons would erase your memory banks on startup.

The only one I really want for its functionality now is 1.5.  And I had a BUNCH in the shop, but I think we sold all of them, as I can't find one in my personal rotation, so I'm kicking myself a bit right now. =/

While I'm here, though...for the sake of keeping the record straight on 2.x:

2.0
8-channel sequencer, mixing nanoloop with more conventinal elements, resulting in a "complex beast". cart with SRAM, made in china.

2.1
same as 2.1 with a few improvements, especially loudness.

2.2
custom PCB made in germany, with one single flash for program and data. software like 2.1 with more memory banks.

I got a look at his setup during BRKfest.  He doesn't even use LSDJ.  It's just the Gameshark.  He's injecting pure hexadecimal code into the DMG.

@Live Animals: My hometown is pretty arboreal as well.  Madison, WI is good for nature escapes and education.  It's been called the Seattle of the midwest.  Funny, eh?  Ann Arbor, MI is ridiculously green as well.  My trip to DC was in the most metropolitan area, so I can't vouch, but my friend Alex says it's one of the most arboreal cities in the country, and he spent most of his life there.

@Turtlesaur: Well, reason I was looking at Everett was my company, Frontier Communications, has a center there.  I was hoping to transfer, but it's REALLY competitive with hiring there right now on account of some downsizing.  They're hiring, but generally they offer the jobs to their own local folks first, so people working out in the field (technicians and such) will likely be moving inside.  Word is things will pick up in January, once the 4th quarter is over.

Right now, it's a toss up between PA/NY and WA/OR.  I've been to NYC a bunch of times, Philly once, loved both areas, and the chip scene there is second to none in the US, but I've dreamed of being in the Seattle area for literally...well...15 years.  I think it might be time I pay a visit and experience the area firsthand.

So, I have a week of vacation coming up.  I'm doing a show in St. Louis on the 14th, then I'm thinking about packing up my snowboard and heading west.  Maybe make a one day stop in Colorado or some other spot in the Rockies for some downhill action, then head up to WA for a few days and finally, either continue on to Canada, as I have a passport but have yet to travel outside of 'Murrica, or alternatively, head south to OR to check out the Portland area (how's it goin', Andreas?).

I know this is pretty last minute.  Anyone willing to host me for a night or two, maybe three in the Seattle or surrounding areas?  Portland?  Vancouver?  I'm willing to pay my way in the form of chip merch (or U.S. Dollars, if that's your thing...jerk).  If anybody wants to throw together a last minute show, I'm down.  I'm also an awesome cook, I'll jam with you, and I won't drink all your beer, promise.

Have Game Boy, will travel.

12/2/2012 Updates
*****************************************

More updates to the site.  Paypal Express checkout has replaced Paypal Standard, so if you're familiar with our shop and Paypal...things will be simplified for you as you complete your purchase.  It was also brought to our attention that no shipping options were available!  This occurred due to the USPS shipping module disabling itself during a recent update.  Should be working now!

Nanoloop 2.6 carts are currently 5% off.

Not quite sure I'm following this. Is it as Saskrotch says?

kind of a waste to leave out a pulse channel for that.

??

What do you mean by "track"? Are you saying we're able to "cover" the sound effects as a musical submission?

Exactly.

Saskrotch wrote:

There's only like 4 songs though?

also NES games were usually programmed to take over a channel as SFX were playing and then go back to the song. kind of a waste to leave out a pulse channel for that.

Sorry, I simply meant to keep it in mind while writing, not to not use your second channel or anything drastic like that.    If you have your second square channel doing crazy shit it might sound weird to cut it for fx. Basically,  I'm saying write for the consoles' capabilities and needs,  cuz we might be using it later.

Same goes for midines.   If it'll prevent us from being able to port later,  I'd rather not, but I'd find it hard to believe there wouldn't be a workaround for that...

I'm organizing a compilation focused on writing covers of the original Super Mario Bros. on it's original chip: the 2A03.

THE RULES:
******************************************
1. Take creative liberties with the songs as you rewrite them.
2. Use straight 2A03 for your composition.
3. Build looping into your track.
4. Plan for (or at least consider) the possibility of your channels being used to generate in-game sound effects while your track is playing.  Hypothetically*.
5. Entrants should each pick a specific audio track from the game.  All in-game SFX will be regarded as one "track".

THE PLAN:
******************************************
I'll find hosting for the comp. somewhere if it turns out well.
IF THE SUBMISSIONS ARE EPIC: I'd also like to make a few hundred legit, physical copies in professionally printed envelopes and distribute them (for free) with nonelectronics packages.  Full credit will be given online and on the printed materials.  Entering into the compilation would be considered consent to distribute your track.
*IF THE SUBMISSIONS ARE SUPERMEGAHOLYFUCKFACEMELTEPIC: There's a possibility of flashing the new NSFs onto legit SMB cartridges.  We'll worry about that when (and if) we get there.
Submissions due by Dec. 31st, 2012. @ midnight in your time zone, don't sweat the hour really.

My live set with El is a Sound of Joy is now available for free download. The set was recorded in Chicago on October 4th. It’s a departure from my normal work: Quick and dirty experimental dance with two percussionists, a slew of circuit bent instruments, and a saxophonist all backing me on nanoloop 2.x.

Like I said: experimental. I hope you like it!

11/20/2012 Updates

*****************************************

I've decided to open mod services back up.  There are now two options in the Game Boy section of the shop, one for Original/DMG and another for Pocket/MGB.  I will be offering a limited quantity of customized units in each category: 2 of each at any point in time, to be exact.  I wanted to keep turnaround times low, so limiting the maximum number of mods that could end up on the list made sense.

In addition to mods being back up on the shop, nonfinite.org has been revamped.  It's now a blog-format page.  I will be posting tour dates, discography, and news both as a musician and business owner to the blog end of the site.
