Have you tried running Virtualbox and Linux? At least on my Windows it's very usable and the sound quality should be as good as it is non-virtualized. There is a klystrack package you can just run and it installs automatically.

Great idea! I'm sure this will work better—I remember using VirtualBox before and it had good sound for me too.

In my opinion, Klystrack is the perfect chiptune tracker! If I could, I would use it exclusively. Unfortunately though, I can't compile it on my 64-bit OS X, and the only available OS X binary is old and much worse than the current nightly builds.

SO, I guess I will have to try again learning from my C programming book this summer. I would love to be able to help out with this excellent project on the OS X side! Until then I will have to deal with running the nightly builds in Wine. For some reason all of the programs I run in Wine have significantly worse audio quality than they do in real MS Windows.

Anyway, thanks kometbomb. I greatly appreciate this software!

This is great

If this is intentional, it doesn't sound like a good idea. If there are two artists who have a song titled "Rain," both of them should be able to upload their songs with the same title without a hiccup. The site should still be able to know which song was from which artist.

Right now the songs are stored like this:
http://chipmusic.org/media/music/YYYY/M … _title.mp3
And the page is here:
http://chipmusic.org/artist/music/title

I don't understand why ev0l's problem occured.

Man, that is one awesome setup. I wanted to get a Modcan system, but it turned out to be far too expensive for what I wanted, so I got a Moog LP instead. Man you are so lucky tongue

Personally, I didn't even know that this was a "scene." I thought it was obscure and very geeky (probably in a bad way). I write chiptune because I love the sound of basic waveforms. And because Famitracker is free, while Reason is not. Old sound chips are their own type of instrument, which sounds particularly cool to me.

Get a giant squid riding a unicorn that has a chainsaw for a horn with flames everywhere and a ribbon near the bottom that says "WORSHIP SATAN."

I guarantee you'll be the raddest dude on the planet.

Oh, and the unicorn and giant squid have to be wearing sunglasses.

No truer words have been spoken by mere mortals.

I use Famitracker and PPMCK for NES stuff, pxtone heart and Impulse Tracker for other stuff. Most of the time I make my own samples from VSTs. But I do love AKWF and bucky's DPCM Sample Pack (Cached).

It takes me months to write a song. The a last one I wrote took most of a year to complete. And I still feel like it's not finished. In the end, my stuff doesn't sound any better than your average track, I just work slowly.

I am a new member of this community, but I have to admit 8bc seems to have many flaws. And it's broken. So I'm migrating here. You guys here at cm.org seem pretty awesome to me, I hope I will fit in.

I do wish that a member's music was visible on their profile page, maybe their bookmarks and recent comments too. Those are the only features I really miss about 8bc. Otherwise, this place is awesome and I hope you don't mind an 8bc noob joining big_smile
