It's what turns your source code into the actual "program". smile

My friend's netbook's the same way, one port that does both.
I'll have to find a 3-line headset somewhere and see if it works.
I think I'll just end up getting something like this for quick recording.

you don't happen to have a DELL netbook? dell has a policy of disabling internal mix recording, which would explain why the sliders don't show up in alsamixer. they offer a patch for that, too, but not for linux sad

Nope. It's an Asus EeePC 1001PX.
It might not be that because I can do the internal mix recording just fine with pulseaudio.
However I can't figure out how to record from my mic jack. (it's one of those mic + headphone all in one jacks)

Sounds pretty cool, although I was expecting some sort of bitcrusher from the name.
(also wouldn't this be better under "Software & Plug-Ins" rather than "Other Hardware"? Just sayin')

Yeah, I normally use the pulseaudio volume thing for this stuff, but I'd like to use alsa instead.
As for hardware, this is all on my netbook, no external hardware or anything.

now hit F4 to get to the recording tab, then select "Mix" as the source of your recording.

Hmm I only see "Mic Boost" and "Capture", no "Mix".

If you use Pulse Audio you can do it pretty easily. Just install the Pulse Audio Device Chooser.
Or another route would be to use JACK, but that can be confusing (for me at least).

Ubuntu Studio or Puredyne would be the way to go.
