Astonishingly dirty basslines? Check. Thumping Beats? Check. Samples from all sorts of various nooks and crannies in pop culture? Check. Christmas Song? Check.
Wait, what?
Most ordinary mixes don’t have Christmas songs, but then, most mixes aren’t by Atari and axe wielding madman Gareth Morris, who celebrates his 10th year of being ‘The One They Call gwEm‘. During a short period of not being busy from touring all over the world, from London to Toyko and almost everywhere in between, or putting on his own shows, or making his own Atari music composing software maxYMiser, gwEm has managed to make this astonishing 35 minute mix of old and new music into an unforgettable dance mix, that will surely cement his position in the chipscene for at least another ten years!

What did y'all think of the return of the mighty Sparkyboy then?

You still, haven't addressed how public transport has anything to do with this.
As in the UK, a lot of people who come to the gigs may be younger than your average chip punter in elsewhere, so would likely rely on public transport to get to shows, and most shows end around 11:30-midnight, and night buses are fucking dodgy, so they might decide not to come rather than miss the final few acts, and getting from city to city in the UK is quite expensive, especially for a young person/student not earning that much, especially as the government have just scrapped a huge benefit system for students, and if people can't get home in a city they don't live in, they'd have to stay at a hostel for the night which also costs money - do you want a fucking novel? Or an excuse to bitch about the UK scene, be my guest.
CDK : I'd like to know how public transportation in the United Kingdom affect Reading+Leeds, Glastonbury and Camden's scene?
And, personally, I'd move to England tomorrow morning, part of it is because of English culture, namely music. (And Doctor Who, of course! :3)
There's a significant difference between an event similar to Blip Festival, and one where arena-selling acts are headlining a massive branded festival, aren't there? I'm not sure of the point you're getting at - of course mainstream music is going to be an easier sell than a chipmusic event!

Also Blip is just one event. I don't know why there aren't more of its scale, elsewhere in the world. There should be, and anyone with the interest and motivation to make it happen really should. The Blip team is basically three scatterbrained fuck-ups with a questionably functional practical relationship. If we can do it, other people definitely can.
Not to make excuses, but NYC is a massive city with a massive arts/music scene and an excellent (and mostly 24/7) public transportation system - this certainly helps a small scene such as chipmusic alive and thriving. In the UK when most Public transport ends before midnight, it certainly makes it harder to organise events on a larger scale. I do try though, believe me!
Plus we don't have an excellently run arts organisation with the financial clout and love of chipmusic to help us out (WINX etc)
CDKr album art still hasn't changed ![]()

In the Desert that is the chipmusic scene, Sparkyboy makes a triumphant return with his African Oasis! Quench your thirst with the refreshing self-titled track, or lie in the cool shade of other bangers such as the mighty Danger Danger! Even better, not a Wonderwall cover in sight! (Not that Oasis, silly…)
