do a free how-to-chiptune workshop. it works very well if you want to built a scene. also, if you have the resources put on a festival/meetup weekend where you invite all known nz chiptuners (and maybe some friends from australia/indonesia/malaysia) to come.

since nobody has posted it here yet, i thought i'd let everybody know that famitracker 0.3.5. stable is out. also if you sniff through the ft forums you might find the link to the 0.3.6. beta (nothing new to see there, just a couple more bugfixes)

mon dieu... excellent stuff! also great move to include the snd files, will definately check them out. only thing i'm not really happy with is the mastering. i think eat_rabbit overdid it a bit. too clean, too much reverb, doesn't really do justice to the ym's roughness. 'nuff said, now get downloadin' people, quality stuff like this is rare on the web.

a must-download for oldschool ravers (and for everybody else as well).

glad you guys liked it wink

that. also i like 80s german neo-punk such as A+P or United Balls and punk from former GDR (east germany) such as Schleimkeim or l'Attentat.

and how come "8-bit (music)" redirects to "chiptune"??? i think 8-bit is a totally different story. chiptune can refer to the tech side of things as well as to a certain style, whereas 8-bit is a completely instrumentation/tech-related term.

and i always thought fakebit was just a meme...

as for the chiptune article, it doesn't seem to be very precise and it's missing a lot of information as it is now. for example, i don't see any reference to the origins of the word, which was coined in the amiga scene, if i recall correctly.

in the end you can't really make an argument of commercial vs political/underground chiptune. both concepts exist as result of the chip music scene getting more mature over the years. just like punk music, which has been commercialized to death over and over again, and still there's a huge non-commercial scene which has little connection with the mainstream whatsoever, kept alive by political activists and all sorts of people who like to do stuff for fun, not for the money.

the problems start where commercial and underground scenes start to compete against each other. i've been told that in sweden it's a bit like this nowadays, with different organizers fighting each other, but generally i don't see that kind of problem. i mean br1ght pr1mate come here to discuss about these things openly with the community. things can't get much better than that.

anyway, i'm not a fan of commercial music in general, and if someone comes here to promote their latest iphone crapp or some overpriced release i'll probably make a negative statement about it. in fact i'm a strong supporter of the "political" side of things, but i do respect people's decision to chose a different path as long as they respect mine. and once you decide to go commercial, it doesn't really make a difference whether it's fox, cnn or mtv. of course fox is really really evil, but so is the whole music industry. plus even fox can't withstand a good media guerilla action. and looking at some of the audience's respnonsens i don't actually know who got owned by whom in this particular case.

bla bla blah...

ppmck supports the wonderswan if i recall correctly, and so does xpmck.

the sound is 4 more or less digital channels, stereo sound + a piezo beeper.
official japanese hp says sound was improved for the wonderswan color.

  from cygne emulator help file:
Specifications:
4 Audio channels.
   Each channel can play short samples ( 4 bit , 16 bytes ( 32 sampels = 2 samples in  byte (bits 0-3 and 4-7))
   with selectable frequency = 3,072 *10e6  / ((2048 - N) x 32 ) Hz , where N = 11 bit value.
Location of that samples is unknown.

Volume of each audio channle is controlled by writing two 4 bit values ( for left/right output
channel) into ports $88 - $8B. Master volume is controlled by  port $91
(2 bit value = first  'used' bit in master volume output (11 bit wide)  , D/A converter can
read only 8 bits , starting from  bit set in port $91 , for example if first 'used' bit
is set to 2 , D/A using bits 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9  for audio output)

   Additional (selectable) functions :
    - channel 2 - voice - can play 8 bit samples writing frequently data to ch2 volume I/O port
    - channel 3 - sweep - two parameters:
                        - step = 2.667 x (N + 1) ms , where N = 5 bit value
                        - value - signed byte (-128  - 127)
    - channel 4 - noise - 7 selectable noise generators (probably I/O port $8E)
