The LSDJ manual is super helpful, imho.  There have been many times when I mention a technique and people say, "Holy cow, where did you learn that?" and I reply, "it's in the manual."

But yeah, for basic starter stuff, that Sabrepulse tutorial is good.  So are those YouTube links.

Mmmyep, this is good stuff!

Nick Title!  I remember digging some of these tracks on 8bc!  Those note runs in the chorus of "Everything is Going to be Okay" always stuck with me.  This is a great release, and I really dig that album art.

If I could find a perfect mixer, it would be 2 channel, with a 3 band EQ for vox insert (forget two band!!!), built in filter, FX send, and EQ kill switches.  Xone:22 and Ecler Nuo 2.0 come so close.  ;_;

I recently bought a Behringer Nox404 for just that reason.  I wanted two channels, but I wanted a mic input and a high and low pass filter.  It has 2 channels plus a mic input, built in FX and FX send, 3 band full-kill EQ, pretty decent layout.  The cross fader feels good.  It does not have kill switches though.

Actually, I just had a though, while there is totally merit in the "net labels are curators" idea. I can't think of any netlabels / labels (other than a couple of double Aside places like metrodub and soundslegit) which cater to singles. That is one thing which the 8bc chart had over net labels.

I just wanted to say how important this is.  There are a lot of cool artists that really mostly did singles, and would chart from time to time.  I'm thinking of people like Jredd or SkipsandwichDX or Doomsberry (or Fearofdark--is there an FOD album???), who all make awesome music but who don't seem to be into albums.

I know I personally am keeping up with a lot of those guys (but probably not all of the ones I liked, admittedly), but I do wonder if the lack of a centralized community with a singles-based chart system makes it harder to find people like that.

Maybe we need an awesome, super-legit single-based netlabel...

I would've gladly given up one of my new unreleased Famitracker tunes for this. Someone keep me in the loop about any volume 2 happenings?

From what I understand it's like a Facebook thing.

But anyway, here's a real post:

I like the idea of some rating system.  It gives newcomers something to strive for, especially if they are geographically remote and unable to participate in a physical chipmusic scene.  And especially if they are not fond of posting often (or if they are like me and apparently always post the wrong thing).

A rating system may help people making quality music who cannot participate in the scene otherwise (via frequent message board interaction or live shows) to get more recognition.  It would also benefit those who never compile release but merely release a trickle of fantastic individual tracks.

I do not have a suggestion for a satisfactory method of implementing this, but I think the overall scene may benefit from something like that.

I don't think there is any drama in this thread. People aren't coming to consensus, but its mostly a decent conversation.  Just because I think you are wrong doesn't mean I think you are a bad person or anything.

There's real human drama in this thread.  Go back and read it again.  Egos and strife and longing and disappointment.  Real drama as opposed to manufactured flame-drama.  Human emotions.

I didn't say it was a bad conversation or that anyone was a bad person either.

There's more drama on most cm.org threads than 8bc threads.  8bc drama was fake flame-y drama, and cm.org is obnoxious drama-drama.

Nitro2k and 4mat posted the wisest posts, in my opinion.  'Nuff said.

Shit man.  This.  I try to avoid my release thread.  If you're 30% of your release thread I get embarrassed.

That being said, I used to feel really weird about "hyping" a release, but I got older and cared less.  If you don't promote yourself, who will?

Just don't be a douche about it.  Don't assume anyone is excited or looking forward to it.  Just put the info out there.  "Hey guys, I have a release coming up."  You can promote your music without being an ass.  Just keep it humble, low-key, and matter-of-fact.

You make cool music. Be proud and let people know.  But, you know, don't be a spaz and spam your own release page or tell people they should be excited or some shit.

Use S commands in snare tables.  NOT TRANSPOSES.

This man speaks the truth.  Transpose seems to glitch out a lot more.

Super excited to look over these!  I've been really dissatisfied with my noise channel snares lately, any chance you can discuss this?

Hmmm.  I really just use the same snare or a variation thereof.  But maybe I can scrape enough together to do a snare column.

Actually, maybe I'll talk to some people and see if I can get several people to share their snare patches and philosophy for a super-ultra snare column!

That poster is pretty rad!

Also, everything else.

I hope people thinking about launching a label are taking note.  This is how you do it.

Peddle your finest wares!

I'd like to gaze at them longingly.

DMG through my guitar amp sounds pretty awful.  Maybe some EQing on the mixer would help a bit.  Also, it's mono, so if you have some crazy stereo panning that's vital to the sound, you'll lose that and the song might sound a bit odd.
