Yeah! Welcome to the 3DS club!
But you should really use Retroarchs Gambatte emulator. Escpecially for audio emulation. The authors of Gameyob even says people to use Gambatte becouse it has so much better audio.
Personally Im mostly using the Fatass tracker on my N3DSXL. It rocks!
The breadbox emulator is ok. But it has slowdowns in speed and audio.
JaffaCakeMexica wrote:Hail fellow! Well met... I understand the desire for portability and yes, the 3DSXL is a nice thing to hold, verily.
Well, in that case, I would say to you have you tried KorgDSN12? I suppose its not exactly chip related, or a tracker, but it is an emulation of quite an old synthesizer and looks pretty decent...check it out!!!

Yeah! Thanks! I was really impressed by the ds10 back in the days. And the dsn-12 is a monster! Very exciting pocket music studio. Also, my best friend has been a professional over 15 years in the electronic music. But often, I get really tired of all hi-fi sounds. That's why I always returns to chiptunes
Thanx for all answers! I have actually tried sunvox. Both on the computer and the Ipad. And I really liked it! But the thing is that, I really love to compose on my DSiXL or N3DSXL. I adore the build quality and I get the right mood when using Nintendo hardware....
Personally I have been playing with Fatass on my DSiXL and my N3DSXL. Equally great, both of them. But I want to try something new. I even tried to load Fasttracker II via RetroArchs dosbox on my N3DSXL. But I can't really get that to work, yet...
Happy tracking
sandneil wrote:fatass is apparently a "stripped down fasttracker 2 clone"... luckily FT2 is one of the biggest and most popular trackers ever so it's easy to find clones of it, i would try:
- fasttracker 2 (for MS DOS)
- milkytracker - a beefed up fasttracker 2 clone for windows/linux/mac
- nitrotracker? - a stripped down fasttracker 2 for NDS
- protracker 3 - fasttracker 2's granddad. for amiga
^those ones all use sampled instruments so you can do what you want soundwise
- reality adlib tracker (an FT2-feeling tracker for MS DOS fm synthesis) - the instrument editor is a bit confusing (same with all dos fm trackers) at first but you get your head round it quick enough
someone else can probably recommend trackers to run natively on atari or spectrum
the c64 trackers seem to have their own cliches and ideals and as far as my experience goes, none of them feel much like FT2 (that's not to say you won't like them!), in fact they are more similar to lsdj mostly as the creator of lsdj is a c64 scener. but cybertracker seems popular for its simple PC-like interface
just spitballing here because i haven't used fatass so i don't know how it differs from lsdj but i guess the patterns-as-a-whole vs patterns broken into chains and phrases will be the key interface difference given that the GB basically determines the input scheme... patterns-as-a-whole is by far the most common approach in PC trackers, far less common on C64.
good luck!
Oh. Thanks for your answer. Very informative
I would love to use Nitrotracker. But I'm not really fond of sample based trackers. I like more when we can reform signal waves however we like. Just like in lsdj ( it's just the interface I'm having trouble with), deflemask or Fatass.
Any other suggestions?
I just love the fatass tracker on the gbc. Unfortunately I don't have the same luck with lsdj
So, I'm wondering if there are any other tracker that operates like fasttracker/fatass tracker for the gb/gbc/gba? Or natively on any other console/computer? Like the C64 perhaps?
Any tips are welcomed
Oo. New version. What has been added?
XyNo wrote:Never tried Ultimate but I tried the Retrobits one and it is really cool !!!
Btw are you Tao from the Atari ST scene ?!
Nope, unfortunately not
I have tried all three now. I'm ranking them like this:
1. KORG DSN -12
2. KORG M01D
3. Rytmik Ultimate
But to be honest. I kind of prefer the Fatass tracker on the gbc
Sorry, I only know about Syntax Error and "En fest i 8 bitar". I think those clubs are the best it can get in in Sweden...
Hey all!
On the NDS I really liked KORG DS10, and M01 was rather cool too.
Now on 3DS there seems to be 3 alternatives:
KORG DSN12
KORG M01D
Rytmik Ultimate
I tried both KORGs. But I thought they were only minor upgrades against the DS versions..
So I was wondering if anyone has tried Rytmik Ultimate? It seems like a very nice portable studio. Is it good? Can I do nice chiptunes on it? All comments are welcome
WOW! This is fucking HUGE. Just like the 8bp previous release!
How am I supposed to compose such freaking music???? haha
Hi all chippys
I want to be able to play around with PR8 & Pulsar on my DSi XL. I have tested different NESDS versions and NesterDS+. None of them can handle those .nes files..
It says something like:
"This emulator dont have proper support of the NES 2.0 extension to the INES Format"
I think that means 32K SAV files isnt supported in those emulators.. I would love to have a nes tracker on my DSi XL darling
Can Anyone help me?
EDIT: NTRQ works on NESDS But I think Pulsar is better. Or what do you think?
YES! YES! YES!
I knew that there were MUCH more potential in the 3DS than the minor M01D update they released on the eshop!
I loved the DS10 for the sounds and all tweak possibilities. But the sequencer was unconfortable and I wanted more freedom regarding effects...
I loved the M01 for the sequencer! But the sound was rather boring..
This is best of both worlds!!
All the things i emailed Detune about seems to be included in this thing
Detune has listened to the fans!
I will buy it first day for sure
Nope, it works on Regular DS and DS Lite too
I looove this Music Workstation! It is fantastic in another way than the DS-10. The sequenzer on the M01 is 100 times better than any other on the NDS so far. I can agree with some people that it can be a little limited, it has only around 330 different sounds. But be creative and combine them and it can do wonders!
