Hi! My name is Rutger and my favorite retro computer is the Commodore Amiga. I used to play a ton of games on it in my early youth. To this day I'm still fascinated by the music created on this machine. From the sci-fi prog of Chris Huelsbeck to the funk of Martin Iveson. From the house music of Barry Leitch to the melodies of David Whittaker. I tried to make some music inspired by the Amiga and its composers. For this I used Amiga Soundtracker sample packs and some software on my Macbook. Enjoy!(?)

Forgot to make Euphoria Melancholia downloadable. Fixed now.

Also added a little "bio" text to the tracks...

The Commodore Amiga is a personal computer from the mid 80s with sort of an an 8-bit sound architecture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_500). With my music inspired by this computer I return to the sound I have loved ever since my childhood.

I take inspiration from funky, poppy and sometimes melancholic music made on this machine, by composers like for example Martin Iveson (Jaguar XJ220 soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xdjLzovc0A), Barry Leitch (Lotus II Turbo Challenge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQSsq7HCNHw), Chris Huelsbeck (Turrican II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fvha_2hAzq0), many tunes from cracktros (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50WWFEBsgfk), etc.

To compose I used Ableton Live and its simple sampler (Simpler), in which I loaded the Amiga Sountracker Sample Packs (archive.org/details/AmigaSoundt…kerSamplePacksst-xx). A couple of sounds come from Plogue's brilliant Chipsounds (http://www.plogue.com/products/chipsounds). I tried to minimize modern production techniques like reverbs, EQs etc., as those apparently only damage the Amiga vibes. Sometimes I wish I would have used a tracker, because they can control pitch bends and arpeggios so easily, but I love piano rolls too much.

Enjoy, stream, download. EP coming up later....

thanks!

Hi, hope it's not a problem to put a single here. I work very slowly so there are no albums showing (soon).

My House Is A Cocoon is a funny funky 8-bit (inspired) pop song, with my friend Nil on vocals. It has sort of a reggae vibe to it because of its swing and offbeat synth stabs. The bass and drum samples come from the Amiga Soundtracker (ST-XX) sample packs (http://archive.org/details/AmigaSoundtr … 192HzTuned) and most of the lead/solo synths are Plogue Chipsounds.

My current challenge is to combine chiptune with pop music, so I hope you like, and comments are of course welcome.

And here's another recent one in a similar Amiga style:

Cheers,
Rutger

w00h00!

Only made on older (game)computers. But some popular 90s house hits seem to be tracker music.... Just has to have some kind of lo-fi digital feel. Don't want to DJ exactly like the most of the DJs at the party, want to represent more tracker/chip/lo-fi/demoscene vibes in a rave context. Understand haha?

Could you post a few of your favorites in Soundcloud/Youtube format? Thanks

Found a couple of gems here. http://modarchive.org/index.php?request … query=acid It's useful that many composers weren't so creative with filenames.

People. I'm throwing together a lo-fi mix for a classic acid/rave party. I'm looking for 90s based stuff like classic house/acid/techno/jungle/gabber... Who can drop some of his/her favorites here please? Melodic (demo scene) influences are more than welcome, but no modern electro-house/dubstep or whatever please.

I'll post some of the stuff I've already added to the mix here later, I'm on a very laggy connection in a train right now.
