no bad feelings taken man, I just think you might be missing the whole idea of using the game boy. no worries.

whats the problem?

i like the noise.  i embrace the noise.

go all in the box if you want shit perfect.  otherwise just learn to embrace and work with it..

i've had a set ruined in my opinion because i used a friends prosounded gameboy and didn't have all the noise to work with...

I think you're missing the point a bit. It's not noise in general that I'm concerned with. Like I said previously, if I wanted high quality chips, I can just generate waveforms on my Virus or using GoldWave (hah those were good times).

Also as mentioned before, the problem is the disharmonious high-pitched noise because that can be distracting to the rest of the song. The buzzes, fuzz, zippers, all that I do want. Just not the high pitched stuff that makes me ears bleed.

I completely fail to follow you at this point...     have you pro-sound modded the game boy in question yet(in any fashion)?  It seems you haven't...

Well, the fact of the matter is, the game boy is a Low Quality chip, and in that in itself, the game boy was never designed to be used as we are using it now, to make music.

I think you might be missing the idea behind chip tuning with a game boy in the first place, if you are even remotely of the mindset of anything to do with a virus synth in comparison to a nintendo game boy (any model for that matter), you might want to re think exactly what you are trying to accomplish here, at this point, I don't think you understand why the game boy is so noisy and why so many artifacts occur within (if you want to gripe about disharmonious tones and pitches, try asking cTrix what he's gone through alone trying to make any kind of coherent melody using the atari 2600, and they are even worse for noise than the game boy when ran through a board)..

I think you may be trying to re-invent the wheel at this point from what I've seen, so all I can say is good luck.   /exits thread

I think you're just going to have to face it man, you are never going to get a 100% no artifact, clean signal from a game boy, this is just going in circles at this point, ask anybody on here or 8bc about it that has been using one for a while now to make music, you can build your filters and I encourage you too, but honestly, if you are recording into a daw with a game boy, just put a noise gate on it and adjust the threshold accordingly to the more quiet parts of your tune, this is probably the only way you are going to achieve what you are after (and likewise in a live setting as well), there is a certain amount of noise you are just going to have to live with tracking on a game boy (if the game boy is stopped for example, there will be some noise coming from it from the internal circuitry alone, pro-sound knocks this down a little bit, but its still present regardless) , I've been an audio engineer for 16 years now, I just don't see an analog filter solving what you are describing, but by all means, Feel free to reverse engineer the game boy however you see fit.

PRICES please.   All I see is a list...

if you haven't pro-sound modded your game boys, they are going to be noisy as hell no matter what cpu you use (even after you pro-sound mod them, not all of the line noise will be gone regardless of weather you are battery powered or using an ac adapter), pro sound mod the game boys first ( I suggest internally as it only takes about 10 minutes if even that), game boy's are noisy creatures, you won't ever get a 100% clean signal out of them, its just not physically possible.

Hey justinthursday, i am new to the chipmusic scene, im planing on becoming a Gameboy Jocky (GBJ) for lack of a better word. and so i have a few questions, im not sure where your located, i live in the US, in Missouri. hopefully thats not a problem. second question can i simply send you in my current DMG? the only issues with it are that the addhesive is stuck on pretty good and the faceplate has fallen off, but otherwise its in fine working condition. i assume you can put in an midi in, so i wont even ask. and whats the cost of custom paints?
if my concerns arent problems and when you reply back i will be glad to do buisness with you. Thanks

This would be better suited in a pm for future reference...

No offense taken.

all i can say is easy on the tagging. the system is there to help with searches not to spam. other than that.... pretty sweet track.

Thanks a lot wedanced, I am glad you enjoyed it.  smile

Also for the tagging, I only placed in tags things I either a) used on to make and record the tune with, or b) things I thought the tune related to, there was no spamming and or malice intended on my behalf, this is what I believe tags are used for.

Thanks for the response..

House / Disco House / Electro house as well as Trance layout are usually pretty straight forward and repetitive, syncopation & repetition are literally the foundation of electronic music as a whole from its very beginnings, from the europop / synthpop / early acid techno of Detroit and europe, to that of the House music from Chicago from Frankie Knuckles, (I.E. Chicago House) and Larry Levan in New York City (F.Y.I., House music is literally called "House" because originally is was created in peoples homes, there is another side of the coin that claims that the term house music came from a type of music that warehouses played, kind of like a standard of music, i.e. Our main course this evening will be the house music, i.e. the music of the house and or establishment it is being heard in), I used to know a guy named Apollo that was actually raving back when it all started by the gay african american community, he claims it was coined from music people made at home and then later took out to play in the evening.

Wikipedia...   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_music

That being said, I've been a musician since I was 6 years old, I play guitar, bass, drums and piano and have been an electronic music dj for about 17 years now, not to say I am the foundation of structure, but I have quite a firm grasp in how music / songs are constructed in general..  not really useful information, but maybe it will give you an idea on my musical background..

Thanks for the comment and for listening, might I suggest taking a 2nd listen if you get a chance, there are quite a few different progressions throughout the tune itself (there is a change every 32 bars to a progression).

I don't think what Bit Shifter was saying was negative at all, I think he was just expressing his own opinion that the buttons are not something he "personally" would be interested in as a consumer, Kind of a cheap shot for you to take at him, the guy's moniker is literally "Less is More"...

Its a personal preference thing in my own opinion, seeing as how you may want to sell them at some point (on any scale, large or small), its kind of disconcerting to see negativity of any kind on a thread like this, some people are going to like them, some aren't, but as a seller, you might want to try remaining neutral towards your potential market base...

Just saying...

Good luck with the project and sales anyhow.

I don't think anyone's opposed to modifications in general, and I don't think anyone's trying to abridge anyone else's freedom to make buttons out of whatever substance they like. Personally I, as one individual, see this modification, specifically, as silly, expensive, and nonutilitarian, and consequently I am expressing that opinion accordingly. All are free both to disagree and to buy (or forge) Game Boy buttons made of precious metals.

I concur...

Seeing as how silver tarnishes and oxidizes, this will not be something I will be adding to my collection...

On the other hand...   Very clever idea, I'm sure you will sell some, Good luck with your sales sir.

Just a joke in good fun, good luck on the project.

I just record in through my board, I use overdrive occasionally and light reverb from the board, I randomly use both additive and subtractive eqing, but other than that, direct in and render out, I've been making electronic music for about 16 years now, with the gameboys, I just like to keep it as close to the original as possible, I just like how the hardware sounds by itself unprocessed, but that's just me...
