I have some insight, 3 years ago I replaced my caps for the same experiment http://www.flickr.com/photos/trash80/31 … 2041079668 ... Ened up using 1~2uf. Though Honestly the DC offset from the low frequencies is more trouble than its worth, you're better off just using a EQ after the cap rolls it off.

Also for anyone else, it's a bad idea to remove the caps altogether as its a buffer, at least, removing them AND doing a prosound mod. You can end up frying the cpu.

I don't know how I missed this thread until now.

In regards to the "dramatic and silly statement", I think you misunderstood. How often do you hold a contest to pick a doctor? Or a lawyer? The thought of holding a contest to pick a doctor or a lawyer should be equally as ridiculous as picking a designer but sadly its not.

Designers are not lawyers or doctors. You do not need to go to school to become a talented or a decent designer- Trust me, school or no school, some designers just suck, education is irreverent.  Also peoples lives are not at risk. (most of the time)

Furthermore this isn't spec work to me. Even the $100 prize is well under any design rate I would charge. When I think of spec work I think of the movie industry where they end up offering more money and continued work at industry rates for the winner, but then also turn around and use some of the submitted "loser" work for whatever they see fit. It's very manipulative.

Personally I see it as a opportunity for a younger or less experienced user to try and make a cool t-shirt/logo design. No harm in that I think- and given most of us do stuff for free for each other in this scene I see no faul intention on egr's part.

No offense, just throwing in my 2 cents... for a cash prize.

I might just leave it alone until I'm brave enough to try an LED backlight mod on this thing. Since the mod does not appear to have been the cause of my audio problems on my other GB, it's probably a safe bet and would be a welcome addition for sure!

If I were you I'd just go get a cheap original DMG and steal it's main board. The noise your talking about reminds me of any gb color's processor. You might just have a bad DMG... And they are so cheap it just seems like the easiest fix. Also is the main CPU a play it loud model with the blob for the cpu?

You guys are useless.

nitro2k01: did you make a mode that turns the screen off?
m00dawg: you can also download and try the mGB rom from http://code.google.com/p/arduinoboy/dow … B1_3_0.zip
and hit Select + A to turn off the screen, I guess the noise would go away then. The high pitch wine reminds me of the GBC's screen wine issue.
You might not hear the wine after removing the prosound mod, but that may be just because the noise level is so high it will hide it.

The resistors shouldn't need to be changed on the leds, but the 6v from the batteries might be too many volts (6v max from there), though it probably will be fine.

Don't know about that, a discussion is a discussion. Think there have been some useful things posted here.

Precisely what music hasn't been influenced by other forms of music?
I'd argue it's just as relevant to ask what chiptunes/music tracks have been directly influenced by mainstream music. Countless? Everything is connected, welcome to the future. wink

Replace "boss" with "entire staff" and "rough night" with "datapop" and "once" with "every time" and you have yourself a decent oversimplification of the situation.

thread recap, dude who no longer works at place had a entire staff who had a datapop every time.

Don't get me wrong, I think fakebit is a shitty word too, but a lot of the stuff I hear with VSTs fails to utilize those waveforms in an interesting way

Or more that it seems the most popular vsts generally suck and miss the mark. Re: magical 8bit

1. There is no such thing as fakebit. It was a word constructed in 2009 and it should go away.
2. Primitive waveforms have been around since the beginning of audio synthesis, just because something has a primitive waveform does not means it's chip music / chiptune etc.
3. There is no such thing as fakebit.
4. Your gameboy sounds like shit.

The term "chip music" is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I would call those examples "Dance music" more than anything else. Chiptune, to me, will always be associated with sounds from the classic gaming consoles and computers.

See Also: Guitar music. wink I think chip music is a perfectly acceptable term, not for a genre, but more for a medium and the culture surrounding it.
Also, If you want to get technical, you could be mixed up.
