That's why I did it. So you all could get in touch to salvage some of this show.

At least you got your full travel expense paid for... I was told that $400 to cover a round trip ticket to NYC was too much... it's not my fault they were planning a show 2 months ahead of the show date.. and not 6...

Before I never come back to this thread I must straighten this out.
Since you keep disclosing confidential booking information at your own will, which BTW, it's very unprofessional,
The reason why Low-Gain never made it into the lineup was because he first asked for $300 , then $320 and then $400.
He changed his fee every single time we tried to make an agreement with him.

We had the money to book him, that wasn't the problem, but when an artist keeps changing his fee --every single time you try to close a deal with him-- it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence to book him.

PERIOD.

Peace out ChipMusic.org

Hey everyone,
I just thought it would be really f*cked up for me disappear and never address any last comments on what turned out to be a show which never materialized.

- First, trust me when I tell you I am the MOST disappointed with the cancellation of this show. I worked, traveled and assisted to countless meetings for months to get this off the ground. To know all this went nowhere makes me angry and also very sad that I will not get to see the show which most of us hoped for.

- The decision to cancel this show was never mine. I was shut down. It literally all went down in a couple of minutes when the venue called us in, informed us that this show had raised MANY concerns which were not in the best interest for them or the people they work with, and then the domino effect came in when one of our investors had enough and abandoned the project. The financial fallout of the event has affected all 4 parties involved and we plan to pursue diplomatic ways to see how we can recover some of our investment. The word "canceled" was actually never used, they just pulled the plug on us leaving us wondering what to do next, which we felt was alert everyone ASAP that the show was a no-go so no fans or artists would keep making preparations to something that had just collapsed. Specially when our financial backbone had walked out of the door.

- I DO NOT BLAME the community AT ALL. I LOVE THIS SCENE more than anyone else. We were made to sign legal documentation where the specifics of the wording used in the thread which led to the beginning of the fallout cannot be disclosed simply to maintain and protect the reputation of the people involved. I personally wouldn't mind coming here and point fingers but that would be a real assh*le move from me and I wouldn't want people to blame one or two individuals alone for a project that hundreds were planning to be a part of.  BTW, for the people who have asked me in emails countless times if something happened behind the scenes... YES IT DID. However, to flat out come here and talk about the incident would be adding fuel to the fire and at this point I don't want to stir up even more BS and thread trolling.

- I encourage fellow promoters and artists to take advantage and pick up the pieces to plan out some summer shows with at least some of the people we had in our lineup. They all have allocated the time in their schedules to perform at the end of May in NY, so I would encourage to try and book them. Sabrepulse has round trip tickets which I do no plan to cancel. This is a great opportunity for a promoter to book a headliner. Sabrepulse: Ask for a performance fee, the promoter is getting you at no cost, so make sure you get paid.

- I wouldn't mind trying to fix this mess by starting a lower scale event with the remaining members of my team, but with the excitement gone and their hopes for a Chip-Con completely ruined...  they are right now in a mental discouragement which has made them not want to be a part of anything related to chip music, at least for the time being. Specially when our reputations are questionable.

- I've received a lot of email pointing out the fact that the chip music scene IS ready for a large scale event of this kind and I agree. This was part of one of the disagreements inside our team. Don't hold me alone accountable for thinking people would've not shown up to this event because I always knew people would, but these views were not the same for all 4 of us.

- I am specially hurt by the fact that my aspirations as a chip musician will be hurt by this. I had been preparing an album for a while under my b3tabot name and now from this fallout I am very skeptic my music would ever be taken seriously.

- I wouldn't mind giving Chip-Con another chance at some point in the future, but it would have to be a very distant future when all the disappointment has passed and people's hopes are more positive. I guess this is all a learning experience.

Thanks to the people who supported this from day one. You all know who you were even though some of you are very angry right now, saying "f*ck you" to me in emails, I want to let you know that your help was and always will be appreciated

- Thank you all and hopefully we'll see each other again in the future.
- b3tabot

PS: The show was going to happen "no matter what". At least that's what you think when you have a contract signed. I guess contracts are not as solid as we all think they are. = (.  Also, to clear the post before this one. Sabrepulse was booked first. = ) Emar, sorry I didn't have the time to get back to you but as you could imagine I did not have much time to get back to each and every artist.

Ok, official announcement.

The venue has called us in to do an emergency meeting concerning the fact that they had no clue this kind of controversy was happening.
They are worried about the venue's reputation and JC productions also has expressed concerns regarding turnout caused by poor reception of the event.

Ticket sales will not happen as predicted on Friday April 9th.
I have made this decision simply because we cannot start taking people's money when the venue is about to shut us down.

Again: Ticket sales will not happen friday April 9th.
A re-scheduling of ticket sales and future of the event will be in order depending on today's meeting.
Very sad this is happening.
It does prove that these forums have an impact on large scale events of this kind.

It would be a great idea to make some DVD stuff with the live show and selling it or whatever for those who can't attend.

What you think?

There's a couple of plans regarding this.
I don't want to announce projects which haven't been completely worked out, but yes, there will be footage somehow.
I will make sure of this.

Guys.
I have a lot of love for this scene and I think there is a great deal of potential here to expand and to make it bigger than what it is.
As a fan of the scene, I wanted to create this event to give everyone a chance to appeal to bigger crowds by throwing a party as big as this one.  I have previous experience in doing live events since my family has been doing this for decades, so I guarantee you the show will be of top quality audio and management. Plus when you guys arrive at the venue, you'll realize this is a venue of very high standards.

Forget about the money. I've invested a great deal of TIME into this simply because I believe in this scene.
I want it to expand, I want it to flourish and I want you guys to benefit by it.

I am not trying to compete with anyone or disrespect anyone or shut down anyone's ideas.
From what you guys have seen, I have been very respectful towards everyone and I am only here to help.
I am very open minded and I am more than happy to sit down with anyone in the scene who wishes to help out and talk things over on how we could be doing things better. ( I will be at Pulsewave on April 17th, come over and have some beers with us after the show )

The whole point of Chip-Con is to HELP THE SCENE GROW.

I am willing to work with anyone who wants to help this cause and I'm sure we all share a common interest here, which is the passion that we have for the music that is being created. Otherwise we wouldn't be here everyday listening to the songs that fellow musicians have been recording, and reading the forums where we can see how the scene evolves.

Now, People have been picking this show apart criticizing just about everything.
I am not entirely sure what is so wrong about giving 23 artists a chance to perform to a big crowd, sell some merchandise and filling a void for a summer chip festival in NYC.

This one thread alone has been very harmful for this event. JC, which is one of the 4 people funding this event, has not been comfortable at all with the negative reactions coming from ---artists themselves---.
The whole point was to help you guys, ( the artists )  but it almost seems to me that you guys don't want this to happen.

This week that is starting will be the busiest by far regarding the work that is being put in this event, and coming here and reading such negative comments from you guys seems very disappointing and it's killing the initial buzz we had on my crew when we started planning this out.

Being accused of being a pay to play promoter has been very disrespectful since the event has been fully funded in it's entirety and the point I was trying to make was very simple, I'm ok with not breaking even, but if we don't, most likely next year this event will not  happen again. I want you guys to remember that we have NEVER asked for help via kickstarters. Not like there's anything wrong with that, but I personally have never asked people for money to be able to afford a project I've been involved with before simply because the room for misunderstandings and accusations increases when we use someone else's money.

I called financial backup from people that trust me and have worked in previous projects I've organized in the past, and they still believe in this event, but the mood in here is starting to change their minds about investing in a group of individuals who don't waste a second in trolling every detail, including the poster of the event which was a great deal of work and time from PFFP. All she wanted to do was to create excitement and in return she got negative feedback simply because ---not everyone--- uses a Gameboy.

I understand you guys have questions and you are curious about a set of individuals who you never heard from before until now, and this is happening simply because we never thought of doing this show to begin with. We were just fans in the crowd who never felt the need to socialize with the artists or promoters involved in the scene because we were just there to have fun. We liked the music. In fact, we love it so much that we decided to give it a chance and use our full resources to put this massive event together.

All I'm asking is from you guys is to realize that we are just here to help and we are doing this for you.
75% of the people in this thread are artists themselves and we cannot do this without having you on our side.

If we tried to book you and it didn't work out, please forgive us, we will try harder next year if this event goes well.
After all, there are limits to what we can and we cannot do. We cannot possibly be able to make everyone happy.

Now, please accept my apologies regarding the size of this post, but as a final note, I hope this clears out doubts and questions you guys had and can we PLEASE move on and make this party happen? We need you on our side because we have always been on your side. This isn't a competition, it's a cooperation. Please remember that.

Coming to this thread and having to answer questions/clearing up rumors/criticism has been taking away a lot of time from work I should be doing in order to make the event happen. I'd like to respectfully ask you all to address this concerns privately via email since if we keep going this way, the event will keep deteriorating. Mail me: b3tabot AT me DOT com

This event WILL HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT since we have already signed a contract with the venue and to cancel the event will be a disastrous financial move. Rain or shine this event will go on, so I'd like to thank everyone who has had some sort of contribution to the shape this event is taking. Your comments regardless of being positive or negative have helped us see what we are coming against and what we will be facing from now on until May31st.

Let's just start fresh again, since after all, there's still almost 2 months until this happens.
Thank you all. I hope we are able to throw a party which you can remember for a lifetime.
---11 hours, 23 artists, and lots of other surprises---

Two very, very important questions that no one has asked yet:

- Will there be BASS?
- Will there be free beer for performers?

There seriously needs to be earth-shattering BASS for Amigacore. Furthermore, there needs to be plenty of Pabst, Blatz, or Schlitz on hand for Amigacore as well. This trumps all else.

The stage we will be using has two massive towers of amps on the sides of the stage,
Then right below the front, a group of bass amps in unison.
Yes, there will be more than enough BASS.

I've wanted to take a picture of this stage for a while and put it on my twitter @b3tabot but I haven't had time to do it yet. Will come soon though.

I don't know about the beer....
The club is counting on some alcohol consumption sales, which was a key component on the final deal we struck with them to make this party happen. They are very aware this is an all ages event, so they don't expect much. I don't think it would be such a good idea to ask them for free beer when that would be probably some of the only sales they will make.

b3tabot: Will there be some kind of incentive system for buying tickets?  CD? Or perhaps a free breakfast?  (DO YOU LIKE…. ah, nevermind)

incentives should work well esp. in this scene (for evidence check 8static and blip09's kickstarter), so this is probably a good idea if you want to encourage pre-sales smile

Hi guys,
Yeah, we got a couple of ideas....
Actually lots of them....

However, I think people instead of looking for incentives to buy a ticket in advance, they should just stop for a second and take a look of the magnitude of this event.... , then ask yourself if you would like this kind of event to have sequels....

The success of this event and many others to come ( if this one works out ) depends DIRECTLY on how many people show up to this.

There's several fellow promoters, musicians and visualists who are already asking me how to get in on the one for next year when we haven't even made any plans yet . I keep telling them that we have to wait and see how this turns out because if the fans don't show up, then the scene isn't ready for an event of this size yet.

ITS UP TO YOU TO DECIDE HOW BIG THIS GETS.
ME, PFFP, RobotHighFive & JC are just 4 individuals who are giving you a chance to do it.
Show your support by purchasing a ticket in advance... , and bring NEW FANS with you.

Some people performing in the show have a bunch of surprises in store for the fans and I hope everyone has a good time.

Thanks guys.

Down side to doing 30 min sets w/ no turn over time inbetween acts.. Do you have the ability to tell someone who is playing 5-10 mins longer than they should that need to stop?

By the end of the night. who ever is playing last or the last 2-3 acts might end up getting screwed.. You can say.. no this wont happen. but i promise you, it will..

Just got off the phone with the venue people....
The word is that they have guaranteed us as much extra time as we want to make sure EVERYONE does a FULL set.
This is good news for everyone worried about sets cut short. They won't.
