Thanks for doing this! I probably won't understand em myself, but i'm sure some wonderful people will be able to do something cool with them

Well they're new carts I bet the initial run is bound to have a few duds, I know WDUWSTS was having issues with his 2.5 cart he got at blip. He just sent it back to Oliver as far as I know.

edit: dummy spelling

Did this originate from the Blip afterparty? If so, more?

if you were talking about that one, I've no idea where the original was taken I was just scouring facebook for a blip picture where 10k was holding a drink

just real quick any USB audio interface you get will be at least usb 2.0, Firewire is good but only if you have a computer with firewire, and not many do these days. that's something to keep in mind though when looking at computers because a lot of audio things do use firewire, but for the most part USB should be fine

not sure i understand the need for licensing, i don't think anyone would go after you if you put this out for free. i'm guessing Nullsleep didn't have any problems with his Depeche Mode MegaMix. how many cover albums have been done in the community already, with no backlash?

Da Chip is an example of a free chipmusic tribute album that got hit with a cease and desist. While NIN would probably be less likely to do such a thing, I find it a little strange that you're arguing against a legitimate release in favour of one that is technically illegal.

If you release a tribute album for free there's nothing technically illegal about it, as far as I understand. If you're making money off of it that's where it gets bumpy, but if it's free I'm fairly certain that's protected.

happy birfffday

Ok, personally I think this whole thing is a little weird but whatever.

About the track I think your sound design really doesn't fit, even with The Only Time as you've linked which by far isn't NIN's hardest song, your cover just sounds like a silly kind of thing, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of dynamics and really, other than the percussion/noise bits it doesn't really have the right feel. Also all of your melody instruments seem to be pretty much straight up pulses with little in the way of variation.

Your style worked well with that Fuck You cover because it's a lighthearted, kind of silly song, but with NIN you need to adapt to a much darker, dirtier style, otherwise it comes off as almost a spoof rather than a tribute.

I would say look at some of the instrumentation that Nullsleep, IAYD, and others who make darker chip music, and maybe try to learn something from them.

also: keep in mind, the best covers aren't just transcriptions of songs, but inspired creations in and of themselves that bring something new to the table.
