aren't most filters typically butterworth anyway? :v

gimme a chebyshev doe

e: nvm i thought it was just a name for the response pattern. d'oh

i really liked it, but i didn't get around to posting in the thread on it's first passage.
and yeah this forum is kinda weird like that. but for the most part the "gameboy stuff that sounds like everyone else" gets similarly ignored (unless it's really really good tongue)

oh, but now i'm going over cyberspeed unleashed and it's nuts! those synth stabs and minor riffs (played on juno6?) on race 7 really do remind me of the mortal kombat movie though. super ship is my fave though, love that old gabba sound smile

the main thing is that i just don't get how a difference harmonic content can equates to a difference in ear damage, unless you relate it back to the fletcher & munson curves.

re: square wave harmonics, this video is pretty good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC36AqL5mw8

Sure, but presumably an LSDJ track doesn't normally consist exclusively of pulsewaves. Even if it did, that's only, what, 4 tracks of pulsewaves ? (Can you tell I don't use LSDJ?) That's not exactly the harmonic content of a full orchestra.

oh, well in terms of musical "harmonic content" no. but in any case, adding more harmonics doesn't necessarily change the amplitude of a waveform anyway.

in terms of actual harmonics (all sounds are made of a fundamental frequency + a bunch of "harmonic" frequencies which are multiples of the fundamental frequency), i think the LSDJ track would have more harmonic content than an orchestra... iirc a perfect square wave has infinite odd-order harmonics tongue

also this:

(but you should probably avoid levels of >110dB with anything)

(unless you're at BRKFEST)

I'm not an expert on ears or sound, but something that comes to mind is that the simple waveforms you get from a game boy chip probably consist of much fewer harmonics than more complicated waveforms.

everyone's too busy having fun irl to post on internet forums :v

NAH i kid, i would turn this thread into a livejournal if i was there haha

ditch the RCA connectors tbh. stick to TRS and check that all your cables and adapters are mono.

or you could find a way to make the laptop/emulator output in mono, if there's any software that'll let you do it easily.

have you got any way to send a mono signal to the amp? mono TRS cables (e.g. 1/4" guitar leads) should do the trick. a mono 1/8" to 1/4" adapter should work too

@jredd: does microtonal or non-chromatic music change how your colour-note coding works?

i have a gameboy where this "static" is super loud on all the stock kits, wheras the rest of them seem pretty normal.

it's like a buzzy, sawtooth-sounding note, same pitch as when the batteries are nearly flat and you're not playing any sound.

e: it's not really there when the pulse/noise channels aren't doing anything, though
