Maybe realtime software mixing is a challenge? Pitch shifting would have to be done in software too I think.

Guys, it's ok because little-scale made it better.

Classic Seb.

Now that is sounding wicked. Like a nasty filter distortion almost. I enjoyed seeing the build process for the sound as well.

Firstly, I can't believe it works, and it scares me. Additionaly, fuck yes.

Doogie Howser pianos, sonic dings, and horns...

There are other tricks, like stacking sounds for richness and improved "motion," but if you have access to subtractive synth methods they become annoying.

Yeah I think static fm sounds are the cheesy ones. If you modulate the modulator tongue even with a simple envelope you can get some sweet timbres. FM8 is a really good softsynth, and it goes way beyond trumpets and bass plucks. It's still challenging to program, but it comes with really good examples.

Why there are like "1 000 000" PSG musicians and only like "100" FM musicians?

It's hard to make (good) fm music, and the most popular video game sounds from the old days were PSG. Well, it's also that the old fm hardware is hard to work with. I think people like using hardware around here.

That's an easy one. People were eagar to take advantage of sampling technology because it was new. And now it's just really inconvenient to use trackers if you don't love them.

FM: Where is the problem? Hardware? Software? Knowledge?

What is simply the best in your opinion FM/PSG or DAC?

I like Datasette. It's not chiptune but kind of related.

Nah I'm not offended. It's a stupid term, but people are stupid. At least we can agree on its meaning, and therefore communicate.

Woohoo. So each drum can use more than one channel?

Well I guess "layered" is multi channel..

You can use Mac or Linux, or try another windows box. Or reinstall windows, or find the ems device in the hardware manager and try to switch in the driver. Also make sure you get the right driver e.g. 32/64bit.

Nicely done. Well layered -- the acoustic guitar in the first track [Oops, I think I meant the second track] blends nicely over the gameboy sounds. It doesn't sound too quiet, or somehow out of place. There are other instruments in there that help to fill out the songs. It's very well produced.

Net or gross royalties? http://jerrodbalzer.com/net-royalty-vs-gross-royalty/

That's a good question. But when it comes to apps they usually call it profit sharing. I guess "profit sharing" implies getting a cut AFTER taxes and shit. So it's a bit more specific.

Edit: not taxes but costs.

Sounds fantastic! Like a 4 bit band.

Eventually ironic gratuity becomes .. gratuitous.

Probably a way to automate this process. Beat detection is not that hard with max/msp, reaktor, csound, so forth.
