Apparently I inadvertently Simon Cowelled this thread into a state reminiscent of periods of 8bitcollective's greatest unrest. Apologies to all. I never knew the DESTRUCTIVE POWER of my own opinion. HolyNegative0, my aim was to call into question only the thread, not the man. Carry on & enjoy the wild, wonderful world of chipmusic.

Thanks for the apology, but I really was being an ass. XD It's a bad habit of mine. Frankly I think your opinion is just as valuable as BR1GHT PR1MATE's or an0va's or anyone else's opinion. It just has more weight because you are an idol to many, and a major source of entertainment for just about everybody else here.
Anyway, I do plan to continue exploring, researching, probing, and hopefully expanding the world of chipmusic. Thank you for your time. ^^

Dude really, it's cool. Now you know of the bands and hopefully many more! Always check out any release from any chip artist you see, even by clicking the forum names of people on this website now can take you directly to their music. It's a great time to follow and learn of new artists' material and use the technology at your disposal!

Yeah. I totally just downloaded every single free .zip file on there. It took forever.

…seemed to imply a certain appalling laziness — not even of the "Hey, tell me about things I could easily look up on Google myself" variety, but of the arguably even lazier "Hey, tell me whether I should or should not Google this" variety.

If it's all just meant as "hey, give me some recommendations, what should I check out" then fine. But it wasn't really framed that way.

Well, I was going to reply to that with a witty joke and then say something the lines of, "I'm sorry if it came across that way, that's not how it was intended, blah, blah, blah..."

Then I realized that what I was doing was exactly what you said I was doing. I was being lazy and idle, and rather than hearing about something and doing my own research and forming my own opinion, I merely asked people to form opinions for me so I could decide whether or not to agree with them. Sorry for being such a lazy ass. Please forgive me.

No worries, man. Don't let stuff discourage you! I will say though that I am way more surprised at your usage of such off-kilter smileys versus the music you spin (or don't spin)! wink Welcome aboard.

Well, thanks. 0u0 The smilies come from years of only using the internet for deviantART. XP

Yeah. Probably a good idea. I often forget how the internet can be at times. 030

Why is this a thread? You're asking, what, if it's OK that you don't know certain artists? Why wouldn't it be OK? Consider your fears dismissed and your human merit validated. As nickmaynard says, you can get 95% of everything off of all the labels e.s.c. recommended for the INCREDIBLE low, low price of $0.00. And as BR1GHT PR1MATE says —

Shit's easy.

Also, I'm convinced that some people start threads just so they can have input from others to refute. Don't be one of those people.

Okay. I merely started it because I wanted to know if, as a member of the chiptune community(I like to consider myself one), I was missing something that I wouldn't want to be missing. 030

You get an allowance of $0.00?

My allowance is 20 dollars, but I only get it every month and a half or some. It's been about a month since my last one. So therefore I have no money.

I can't get a job because I'm a high schooler who can't drive and looks like he's from elementary school. I'm short and I have a baby face. Nobody wants to hire me. T3T

I have no way of knowing why you responded this way, if it is your situation or if you're just really pissed off right now. But I do not like being called a n00b, nor was I seeking to be called one in posting this. I am, in fact, new to the chipmusic community, and have not had very much exposure to it.
The largest genre on my mp3 player is, in fact, Chiptunes. It's just mostly free music that I've found on this website.

It's a little unusual, but there's nothing wrong with it. Everyone has different tastes, interests, and paths to learning more about this. I do think you oughta listen to Bit Shifter. A lot of Bit Shifter.

Thank you very much for an intelligent response. I do plan on listening to Bit Shifter. Eventually. XD

seriously though, i think everyone's been in a situation where they inexplicably just found out act X is a big deal, so it's all good. got outed a couple of times myself (quite embarrasingly too) for being totally clueless about a particular artist.

it's reasonable not to expect newcomers to have to bury their noises in the entire history and ecosystem of chipmusic the moment they first discover it.

Thanks for another intelligent response. I myself have tried to do some research, but I just haven't had as much time as I would have liked.

I know. I'm not trying to find out about them. I'm just wondering if I should.
Now that I think about, I haven't heard any commercially released chiptunes. 030
