Holy crap! This happens to me all the time! Ill think of a tune, lyric, or even a chord progression that seems like genius, then go to bed/wake up fully and it'll be gone. It's getting them out at the right time that's hard. It's gotta be that your mind is more relaxed and not running at a high frequency cycle or something.

The musician as a clairvoyant... Romantic era thought. Really cool stuff temp:)

melatonin and kava together seemed to have a pretty profound effect on how much i was able to harness that. high kavalactone concentration in the kava, very low melatonin, like 1mg. i dont take either anymore and didnt take either for very long, but boy did it have an effect in being able to channel that lucidity. ive even noticed more recently that the way my brain works, i can hear a song even just once and somehow recall it in my sleep with the same or even more detail that i noticed when i was awake. usually its right as im waking up at the end of a sleep cycle these days. the brain is such a strange computer that it seems almost unfair or wrong to not take the cues from it when its resting as part of the experience of facing your essence and to try and take in as much as you can even if you're sleeping. then again, i guess i dont ever really feel 'asleep' as a result of that, ahaha.

more often than not my melody stuff comes to me in my sleep, which is really unnerving sometimes but its also a blessing. maybe my mind is the most creative in that period inbetween deep rem and waking up and a lot of time it is a battle for me to get those ideas out. but theres a clarity there whenever i actually go to jot it down that doesnt fully make sense to me, its almost a matter of recalling an actual memory or something that the idea is fully realized before i get it out. to me its sort of symbolic of the essence of creating for yourself, the physical act of thinking and then doing and bringing your idea to realization, but it still creeps me out.

nobody would be friends either because music would cease to be about simply the music and would be about competition and compensation and not at all expression, kind of like what danimal's whole spiel seems to be to me. kind of why we keep getting caught up in these circular discussions of objective nature as well.

danimal 'im trying to make a living with toys' cannon pretty often comes off as if he looks down on anyone for not being prog enough or whatever enough, perhaps even subconsciously and most likely believes that whatever he does in lsdj is the objectively correct intended purpose of it and theres no deviation in that to him. i would like to think otherwise and give him the benefit of the doubt, but theres too much evidence to the contrary. even just in this thread. but hey, read all the threads and make that distinction on your own. if that works for him i cant disagree with it especially if it creates success, but its a pretty reptilian philosophy to have if its in your best interest to try and keep things real.

and if that is your 20, there is no changing or challenging a mind like that because that mind was never open in the first place, only stuck on whatever goal of 'success' thats set. whatever you create will be blown out and you will be left with a bigger impression in your mind of not succeeding. things are not going to ever be fully successful for anybody because that is not what the word 'success' means. and nobody is ever gonna make a living off a gameboy no matter whether they make the musical equivalent of doves shitting rainbows or not because if it was gonna happen, it would have already done happened. and really, am i even talking about music anymore or is that some skrillex shit that i am approaching here. i dunno, but if i had to choose between a skrillex or a squarepusher, i'd much rather sit down with squarepusher and talk to him about stuff that would help me learn to improve my skills, rather than open a dialog with skrillex to find out how to improve the way i can fleece others into thinking im doing something new when its assuredly not. and thats not a dig toward dan despite some of the things ive said about him, thats a position that any person can put themselves in and can learn from if they actually care enough to experience it.

here are examples of blogs that i feel are well written and are also beneficial for the artists. blogs should be informative in terms of the history of the artist, other projects, area they're from, that kind of thing. sadly abptbap doesnt have a ton of information about the artists across all of the blog entries. it really needs to be more thought out if you want people to get the most out of it or use it. it has good things going for it, but i think it's important to look at other blogs as much as possible to see the differences between whats here and what makes a sticky blog. try and make a shift to making it a bit more informative as well as working with the artists themselves. dont change the names of the releases to leetspeak on your mediafire links so that if people download it and listen to it later they have a hard time figuring out what it is that they downloaded. these are simple things to change so that it can be more of a success.

it doesnt look like a lot of work goes into the blog to me. im not trying to be a dick or anything or slag that its for the artists, but then again, one could argue that if a lot of work were going into it that maybe there wouldnt be full releases from artists who are charging for their work there.

the problem isnt the blog. the problem is that it is a shitty blog. shitty writeups and it is done poorly, then if you download something, you get a file that says some shit like 'SerrrtahphaeedTekneeshan - PlesteekDeezkuhlorayshon'. perhaps these are poor criticisms to make toward a blog that shares downloads of chip releases. but put it this way playas, i would not suggest this blog to my friends for fear of ridicule. i wouldnt say any of the descriptions of the artists music shared there is anything that would make me interested to listen to the music, and isnt that the point of a blog in the first place.

sorry but this blog is sort of wack. hes got all sorts of 'no site as far as i can tell' on his descriptions, which arent very descriptive to begin with. he just isnt researching the stuff he's blogging about all that well if he is going to write that for stuff and find the webpages, but selling the artists down the line in a scene this small on releases is actually kinda counterproductive. lets take just one of his blog entries:

Nothing unique for the VGM genre, but they use some flutes - giving it a bit of their own flair. They rock, they're heavy and they cover some badass tunes - that's all you need to know.

wtf? is this really the best that could be done there?

i dunno about that man, you dont just get lazy and slip a remix into a video thats got that much production goin on in it, ahaha. of course they might play it off legit as if they just misplaced their paperwork, and never got a receipt out to zabu or dubmood, but they owe em restitution, no two ways about it.

curious to see bit shifter weigh in on this and how much transparency he can give us, it will certainly serve to be useful depending on how this goes and possibly he could aid to come to some terms of agreement here if the lines of communication are open. heres hoping, that would be a best case scenario. i gotta say again tho, at least its a video that has a significant amount of production to it and looks 'pro'. of course that doesnt make this situation look any better, but if people recognize it and appreciate and enjoy it after a resolve is reached, it at least looks like they put a modicum of work into it.

i certainly dont like the content and i think its pretty gross, but thats my opinion. you would have thought that they would have went with some music that sounded a little bit more like mortal kombat music though. my impression is that they put all their funding and effort toward the video and then the audio was an afterthought, and a fairly shortchanging one that maybe they had to handle in a lump sum for all those vids and yeah, i guess they coulda simply gotten sloppy. but the fact that they cleared bit shifters songs leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

i dunno man, whats odd about it is the whole shit if you werent contacted, simple as that.

if you care enough i would talk to josh and find out if he signed off on it and if he says no, try and discern if any other music thats in their clips might be familiar, approach those people and ask the same, and take it from there. unfortunately you dont have a lot of recourse here but in the grand scheme of things, does it hurt you at all or take away any fans from your music? i would think not because the sound in that is so fucking weirded out and maybe 1-5% of the people who would watch that crap would already be fans of yours and notice it to begin with.

i think when this kind of thing happens, theres a modicum of flattery that you should take into account and if it doesnt affect your bottom line, then spread the word that they've done this and let that speak for itself as opposed to trying to get them to take it down or credit you, you'll be fighting a losing battle with people who dont have anything invested one way or another. not saying to bend over and take it, but honestly it doesnt look like a bad video and while they didnt credit you, they can easily claim that its transformative art. so that isnt kind of a shitty factor thats not in your favor.

if you are irked to the point that you cannot accept that this is on the internet without your credit, send a cease and desist order and hope for the best, but certainly talk to others and approach it with as much concrete evidence as you can. this doesnt have to be a bad thing for you but if you dont approach them with no sentiment or emotion, they're most likely gonna see your weakness and disregard you fully. i hope for your sake you looked up a good form c&d letter and sent it to em before saying anything or opening any dialog, there is no reason for dialog with them inquiring about anything other than sternly letting them know you caught them taking your stuff and using it without your approval.

edit: sounds like maybe the pieces of this puzzle are comin together and now you got an idea of who's behind this. you have my axe if need be.
