Although making your own samples should allow for easier tuning issues between samples.

I.e. i typically sample C on each octave across keyboards i like..
not that every keyboards C is going to be in tune with every other keyboard.. but fresh batteries helps too! smile

I'm more than happy to be corrected on this but

Mixing - levels of the "instruments" relative to each other

production - making the above sound good with fx/eq/comp and stuff

mastering - preparing the produced audio for release on whatever medium

was I even close?

I'd say you were pretty spot on..

Another method possible for "recording" tracks would be to record each channel onto separate tracks into your DAW (digital audio workstation).
This can be done w/o clock sync. how ever i recommend using some form of midi clock sync to ensure your channels stay in sync with each other,

What this allows you to do is do a lot more traditional mixing techniques. If you use more than 1 kind of instrument on a channel you can
go even crazier and use gridmode editing (if you recorded tracks in via midi clock sync), and separate your tracks even further for further mixing
and editing.

It can really allow your songs to POP in my opinion..
but takes a lot of time and effort which a lot of people aren't really interested in doing. or believe it takes away from what it's supposed to be.
Although this is how i prefer to work now.

I love the fact that you can actually clip within piggy... although it can get a bit crazy sometimes.
Def. forces you to be mindful of your mix all the time.

Lazerbeat!!! smile Welcome!!

Thanks for the request! the upload system is under heavy development and every suggestion and request will be taken into consideration.

I think a tag system would be great for hardware/emulation filtering if peeps are looking for specific hardware based tunes... smile So who know's what will end up happening in the end!

**** NOTICE: IF INFO IS USED FOR PROFIT I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN****
Basically the how to is on my  website, but here are the images of how to do it..

there are two circle indents on the inside of the game boy colors back panel. i made my center punch for the hole at the bottom edge of this circle. Tightening the RCA jack nuts are a little tricky and i recommend using two needle nose pliers for that.

Be sure to deactivate the internal speaker as per my instructions on the "CGB PRO SOUND MOD HOW-TO" on my website. you can even remove the internal speaker after you remove the normalling resistor. it will give you more room for wire.

Note: I jumper the ground from one RCA jack to the other... then ran all the wires under the PCB. this can be done with out removing the pcb. just be careful not to pinch any of the wires..

I used 24Gage wire.. i recommend it.. i would also recommend 1uF output caps to prevent DC from getting back into the chip but... that's if you want to get really technical. :-P
