Do you still have the 32-1 game cartridge?

kitsch wrote:

oh, wait...

have you tried this in a color console instead of the pocket?

the sticker indicates they are color ROMs, not all GBC ROMs play back on non-color devices.  the Nintendo ones like this give you the nice incompatibility screen, but since this is a pirate cart who knows...

worth a shot!

You have a good point, I just tested it in a GB boy color, it didn't work sad

Is there a chance that the problem may be the resistor or the capacitor, or the chip itself? By looking closely at it I can't see anything burned or wrong.

Thanks guys

I have tried cleaning its contacts with alcohol, I also used an eraser to rub on them but it is still not working.

Do you think that may be the resistor or the capacitor that can be seen in the picture of the board need to be replaced?

Guys,

I have found this game cartridge in my closet after some years of not using it, it used to work perfect before, but today when I tested it out it simply did not work, by not working I mean that I insert it in my gameboy, turned it on and the screen display the bar going from top to bottom of the screen like if there was not cartridge inserted, it is like the gameboy does not read it.

Here with a picture showing what happened when the gameboy is turned on with the game inside:

And I have taken pictures of the board itself in case you could guide me on how to troubleshoot it, I have clean it and also added a new battery but still not working.

Been using my MGB for a few days now with the el_dmg kit installed but now my cart constantly crashes and when I press play the contrast almost completely disappears.  Are you having any problems with yours?

I experience the same problem with the contrast when using used batteries, when I used fresh batteries it works great, or when I use an aca adapter it works perfect too, but as soon as the batteries ran out of power the problem starts.

Have you found more gameboy games? I am interested in the 32 in 1 cartridge, but if you have other games I can buy more.

Let me know!

thanks

Turn the panel so the wires go out the right side of the LCD and trim away the plastic from the shell around the LCD so the wires can pass through unobstructed.  Also, be very careful with the metal pads where the wires connect.  I actually broke my first panel and had to reorder a new one from kitsch (hence the delay).  What I did to be careful was I grabbed the wire with a pair of needle nose pliers near the metal pads and held the connection very straight then bent the wires at the black heat shrink part so it would fit into the shell.  Also, the panel has to be slid all the way over so the side with the wires is touching the side with plastic surrounding the LCD.  then just tape it down to the ribbon cable.

Thanks a lot, so if the cables get disconnected from the metal pads they cannot be attached again with a little solder?

Little delay but finally got it installed.  Apparently killed a line of pixels during install but it works and this is my personal writing unit so I don't really care to attempt to fix it.  Sorry about the bad picture.

Looks awesome.

Was it hard to install?, I will do mine today, Any tips you can give me or advise?

BTW, How did you avoid the EL_DMG cables messing up with the ribbon cable of the LCD?

Thanks man, really like the finally results on tha MGB smile

Vertical lines are a problem with the ribbon cable that is connected to the bottom-side of the LCD glass.

My bad, I meant horizontal lines that can be seen in the picture.

So i've just finished prosounding a gameboy that i've been working on, and i've bent the LCD cable too much to the point where some of the wire has snapped internally. I've not seen anyone replace a ribbon cable on an LCD before. Has anyone here had experience with this?

I've cut up an old PC IDE cable and i'm planning on using that to solder the wire straight to the back PCB.

Here's a picture of my DMG after the ribbon failed:

Here's the ribbon (I know, i need to teach myself how to stop bending them to get them in!):

And the (tiny) IDE cable that i'm planning on using:

its been a little too long since I ordered them to remember, i'll need to dig up the itemized list for the kit and see what i can do.

the real work in that kit was/is the PCB, the rest is just bulk parts, so it won't be that big of a deal.  thinking about this...  i suppose i should post some info on the EL panels, the powder we used is a high quality for example for a longer life.

i'll just make a different product page and dig up the deets on the panels and get some info posted, won't be today for sure because i'm just getting back into town and have things piled up to do, so if you (or anyone else) is in need of those asap-ish just email/PM me and i can at least figure out a price quickly and get the ball rolling for you so you don't need to delay a project you might have in mind considering this.

Well, now that you mention that, today I placed an order for one of them, one EL DMG kit; I am going to send you an email because I may be interested in getting an extra panel too with my order if that is possible.

oh, you're welcome!

the bit about being careful with the bending is important, Chris said he actually tore one contact off the EL membrane when doing this, but with the little bit of pressure from the electrical tape got it working again.  so if this happens to you pressure is the thing to try to fix this (not heat),

i'm also going to offer the EL panels just by themselves as an option because people have been wanting to experiment with other inverters.  guess i'll just post here quickly when i get those up.  the PCB is the more expensive component in the kit, this would let people not be so tight arsed about messing up their one panel in the kit, if they can get spares on the cheap side.  hope so.  want to encourage diy and hacking

Offering the EL panels by themselves sounds like a great idea, I will do my MGB with extra care; however is good to know that if I break it I can order the panel only for cheaper.

Now the question that I have is whether I should use one of the biverted MGB PCBs that I have, or if it would look better without being biverted.

I will probably try both and then choose.

Matt how much would the Panel only cost, any ideas?

Thanks!

some pages back in this thread people were asking about EL backlighting a pocket,

well, today, someone sent in their pics showing how they did this!  thanks so much Chris!  very much appreciated,

he warns:  it seemed to fit best by orientating the leads so they come out the side.  doing this means the leads must be bent a bit (see photos).  bending them must be done with extreme caution as the pads can lift from the EL material.

but, check it out!  looks really great imo, really clean install

Matt, Thanks for this, It is exactly what I was looking for, I just ordered my EL DMG backlight kit to install it in my MGB.

Thanks again!
