My style always varies a little bit, though I think writing a group of songs within the same year or two generally makes them related enough (as they represent my general leanings/feelings around that time.)
I do prefer releases that are limited to a specific sound set or chip, so they are at least more sonically cohesive. I've done 2 Game Boy albums, an NES album, and plan to keep up with that grouping method in the future.
I wasn't sure where exactly to stick this, but here goes -
I've been sitting on this design for a while and opted to create a Teespring campaign to get it made rather than wait until I have the upfront cost to print and fulfill orders myself. I did my best to keep the price low but shirt quality high. It'll take a minimum of 30 orders to get these printed.
Description from the campaign link -
Place your order now and help fund the first MicroD tee shirt! A limited edition run featuring my original 'Exorcism' design screen-printed on a ghoulish dark grey heather tee. This campaign ends the day of Halloween.
...In order to convey MicroD’s progress over his 3 albums, allow me to draw a classic video game metaphor. ‘MicroD’ is Super Mario Bros., a basic but always enjoyable experience. ‘Prime’ is SMB2; a fun experiment that everyone may not fully “get”, but an absolutely worthy successor nonetheless. And yes, ‘Radical D’ is motherfucking Mario 3; its 8 tracks are as unique and varied as the game’s 8 worlds...
Upon further investigation, it looks like any additional data outside the most basic .wav file structure (time stamping etc.) will throw errors with this unit. This site recommends importing and re-saving all samples with Audacity. I haven't tried this yet but will update if/when I do. I'm more than a little put off by this.
Picked one of these up and have had hell getting SD card samples to work with it. I've verified multiple times with multiple programs that my files are the correct format, filename structure, bit depth/rate etc. but no luck. The unit either restarts when an SD sample is loaded or gives a SAMPLE ERROR message. This is with the current firmware update v1.0.01.
This unit has a l lot of promise. It fits a very specific purpose that I think a few of us have been waiting for and the price is right. That being said, I'd steer clear until they can put out a better firmware update. Mine is probably going back.
