I'm not super experienced with modern DAWs, so I can't answer your question well, but I think you can just use it as an external midi slave in a way similar to how you would use a MIDIbox FM.

Well, I managed to crash the shit out of my PentiumIII 98SE laptop trying to get the MPU-401 support working. I don't know why the lappy didn't like it. It's kind of a moot point anyway, it doesn't have a standard game port on it… I'm not sure how I'd go about connecting my controller to it anyway.

It's all good, though. I have a Yamaha YMF7xx card in the mail, and my XP machine is going to get a 98SE partition, so we'll be putting the FM in Funky Music shortly~~

American Spirit Blues are the standard issue hipster cigarette here, but I thought Parliaments were the less locale-specific one to reference.

I didn't think it was an apparent enough portmanteau / pun, but now that I think about it, you're right.

They're gonna make me hand my literature degree back in. sad

What is it about scene girls and four poster beds? Hipster Mysteries.

BUT ENOUGH TALK!

Wow.

Ah, very interesting!

I managed to edit the config file to get 2.4 to find the MIDI interface and the FM device, but it still sounds funny compared to recordings.

I tried running both 2.3 and 2.4 from the prompt in MS-DOS mode and the computer didn't like that. Weird.

I admittedly haven't done the best homework on this; I'm not the most skilled user of DOS.

I'll try the AWE32 drivers from Creative and see what happens. Thanks for the tip! wink

I'm just going to sit here and reimagine that commercial as done by Alec Baldwin in Glen Garry, Glen Ross.

Game Boy(s) and your Lauchpad/Abelton DAW -> Mixer -> PA or Soundboard

If you lived where we live you'd know how hilariously and painfully untrue that is.

Daaaang I just lost six degrees of The Cure.

I wasn't even trying to be a jerk. sad

Anyway, my main point was that Brooklyn has a slammin' scene and that if you keep going to shows you are going to bump into some cool peeps who know this stuff inside and out, and they will show you better than any dudes on the internet possibly could.

Hold on guys, I'm going to get dramatically distant and quiet while I mourn all of the relationships I've lost to not understanding an obscure indie act as intimately as she did. sad

I don't want to be "that guy," but if you're on the scene and in BRKlyn and you go to shows, then you have probably already seen someone do exactly what you are describing live once or twice.
