I went through a long span of time with a shitty username on 8BC but I uploaded a lot of shit. Then I found out that a terrible rapper was using the name, so I dropped it for a new one on cm.org, and then I found that there were like 5 other electronic artists with the same name, so I dropped that one for my present one and just got so sick of changing names that I made an oath to stick to this one. I got it from the end of a Youtube video in which some middle aged guy described the box art on the DMG.

Thanks to their assistance in writing/directing it's got Homestar-quality humor throughout, and they even stuck Strong Bad in one of the episodes, not-so-cleverly disguised as a magician named Carl.

It's too bad there aren't any "game consoles only" chipmusic artists trying as hard to "make it big" as Anamanaguchi is to compare the two. Science, we need experiments.

But anyway, congrats to them, I wish I could have seen it on the tube (not youtube).

I'm not sure how someone could possibly reach that level of attention with just a DMG or whatever. People are whiny and scared and need things like guitars, things they know, to 'anchor' them when they find new music.

I said it once, and I'll say it again:
(lsdj)
Step 1: Create rough bare bones of the song, with various melodies/basslines/drum beats/etc. at the ready, to be triggered nonlinear...ly. This ensures unique (albeit occasionally batshit nonsensical) performances of the song.
Step 2: Spread out some empty chains and surround them with breakdowns/bridges, so that you can actively place notes into them and smoothly build up a melody/beat/whatever you subtracted, as the pattern plays out (Timing this requires some practice)
Step 3: Alternate endings or something
Step 4: Cry and give up and use lsdj keyboard (or famitracker's keyboard mode on a laptop)

That's exatly what I do. As I'm first of all a techno artist, that use to play live with machines and synths, I instinctively (not sure about this word ... sorry) make music by creating patterns and arranging them live.

I just prefer it because I don't see the appeal of essentially lying to a crowd of people by jumping up and down and doing nothing. At the very least, people could solo/mute channels and change parameters/octaves/etc.

Step 2 was really fucking hard to get good at, but the practice pays off when you can just have pentatonic arpeggios and shit rip into the track out of nowhere. Having perfect pitch kind of helps too, since you basically have to write stuff into chains without being able to hear it while you're writing.
