Hi sorry to bump and old thread.

I have an identical set of these and want to find out a bit for infomarion on them, they came from THQ and that's about all I know.

I also wouldn't mind knowing what they are worth.

Posted them here - THQ Dev carts for the GBA https://imgur.com/gallery/U4zDM

Thanks

Just a thought - how come you're using Kapton tape? Isn't that heat-resistant tape for soldering/soldering protection?

Could it be that the Kapton tape is creating a connection? I know it's got copper in it but don't know if it's enough to conduct.

But yes - a good point you mention at the top; if you haven't got your wires trimmed very well it's easy to make a short on the board in any gameboy.

Best off leaving the biverting till this is sorted! Thought I'd ask to narrow down choices.

Hey Bud,

All sorted now, I have used the points people have advised on the back of the unit opposed to the ones on the front under the LCD, as mine wasn't supplied by HHL it may have been compatibility issue. Kaptop isn't conductive so it wouldn't have been that causing the short.

I have a picture of it on my instagram - https://www.instagram.com/robsgamerepairs/

Cheers for the help

Hey bud,

Are you absolutely certain that none of those wires are being pulled from the connections when you put the pocket back together again? If you're 100% certain you don't want to remove it, you can use a tiny bit of hot glue to help the connections stay strong, although this shouldn't be necessary and there isn't much space in that case...

Will try adding a dab of hot glue, the points that I used are the ones that HHL suggests and the ground wire I did cut quite short so any sort of movement may get it to touch the pin next to it, however it did work for a few minutes before reassemly and after but until I desolder it and re attach it won't work either whilst assembled or de assembled.

Psynaptik wrote:

Do you test it just after soldering to check it's working before reassembly?

Yeah man, it didn't work at first, before putting kapton tape down with no game in it, it would turn the backlight on and it would show the screen with the blank Nintendo logo but when you tried it with a game in it would just cycle the scrolling Nintendo logo over and over again and not get past the Nintendo logo.

Also, are you biverting it? If so, is the problem occurring after the backlight only, or after you've added the bivert?

I haven't attempted biverting on this one.

Cheers for the help

HI All,

Installed a GBP Backlight yesterday and it worked fine but if I leave it off for a while and come back to it there will be nothing on the screen and no response from the contrast wheel and you don't hear the Nintendo start up sound. If I take it apart and resolder the back light in it will then work again fine.

I have used a 100ohm resistor and also added klapton tape under and over points on the board that could cause a possible short and also under and over the little tab that the leads are soldered to on the backligh unit,

Any ideas before I revert it back to a standard pocket ?

Cheers

In great condition and it works 100%

Will post for free within the UK

New stuff added guys.

Somthing like this, it's just a draft, I may make my name central to the design though.

Tell me what you think big_smile

Just finishing it.

What I have come up with is a stencil set with a jig, so it will keep the gameboy in precise place, I have made the design on photoshop and each layer will be printed out, glued to card then sprayed, I will be using a wide nib so the paint is more of a cloud of paint to settle on the gameboy, it will use  a hell of a lot of paint but will give it a better and even finish.

I bought some acrillic paints for hobby painting and it just goes on horribly, glad I used a scrap case, what else apart from spray paint can I use, I want to do a graffiti piece on it. I guess I could use different stencils.

Right after deciding to take it to part and strip it all down, I can open the tray manually, so I thought I would leave it open whilst it turns on, it retracts the disk but it will not open again after, I have been told it may be the belt, but I don't see how it could be as it will close it.

@Screamforme9, as far as I know it read disks last time I had it working, but I wouldn't like to say for sure.
