Only six left.  Remember, this may be your last chance to own a Gilberti Industries ArduinoBoy.

Strike that: only one left.

I've seen this two or three times before.  For some reason, that particular resistor likes to snap off.  It isn't particularly special, just a 10k surface mount resistor.  Can't tell you the size from the picture, unfortunately, so I can't tell you which form factor resistor you will need to replace it.

- YOU ARE TO USE EVERY STRING ON EVERY STRINGED INSTRUMENT YOU HAVE

- YOU ARE TO LAYER 3 TRACKS OF YOUR VOICE (at some point in the song, you don't have to sing (or "sing") and it doesn't have to be throughout, but at some point you must have 3 simultaneous vocal tracks going)

- IF YOU HAVE NO VOICE, IT WILL BE FUNNY

- IF YOU HAVE DIARRHEA, YOU MUST SAMPLE YOURSELF POOPING

*OR*

- IF IT IS A RUNNY NOSE YOU HAVE, YOU ARE TO SAMPLE YOURSELF BLOWING YOUR NOSE

- EXTRA POINTS ARE AWARDED IF I HUM YOUR CHORUS MELODY IN THE SHOWER/BROTHEL

THE CHALLENGE IS SET

YOU ARE TO FINISH IT BEFORE YOU GET WELL

I'll admit, that is a lot more challenging than the cover of "Keep it Dark" I was thinking of suggesting.

Will you accept requests for covers, or are covers not challenging enough for you?

I would like to throw in my support for the use of EAGLE on this project.  Since a freeware version exists it allows anyone to make modifications as they see fit, it works on all three major computing platforms, and so long as you are doing small projects, the Freeware/Light version is more than adequate for getting the job done (plus a Light license, which allows the software to be used for commercial gain, is a very reasonable $50).  Of course, I'm somewhat biased because no Mac version of Altium exists and thus I cannot try it out and give you my impression.  You've already gotten this far with EAGLE.  Switch horses now and you will have to rebuild the whole schematic/board, plus more than a few custom parts.

I've built more than my fair share of ArduinoBoys.

A standard ArduinoBoy has 5 modes: LSDJ Master mode (LSDJ sends MIDI clock signal to synchronize additional instruments), LSDJ Slave mode (LSDJ receives external clock), LSDJ Keyboard mode (lets you use a full size musical keyboard as opposed to a hacked up PS/2 keyboard), Nanoloop Slave mode (Nanoloop receives external clock), and mGB mode (use the GameBoy as a synthesizer with full MIDI control, exclusive to the ArduinoBoy platform).

Any recordings for those of us who couldn't be there?

Will you be releasing the EAGLE files under an open source or non-commercial use license?  On the off chance someone tries to recreate the GameBoy processor with an FPGA, or tries some other complicated mod, having this board for a template would make things much easier.

Actually, that's what my comment about Jose and blackmailing was about. At least two people have made FPGA implementations of the Gameboy CPU. Then at some point, Jose got his "ultimate handheld" idea, which would among other things contain a real DMG CPU and a FPGA emulation of a DMG. So he turned to the creator of "FPGABoy", costis, and tried to make a deal. But as it also turned out, Jose had registered FPGABoy.com, which used to belong to costis, but expired, and used that as a bait to make him sell his design to him. Costis refused and never got his domain back. He also got cold feet and decided not to release FPGABoy as open source, which was his original long-term goal. So yeah...

Makes me wish I didn't have to deal with that other site.  Problem is there are still more people there to sell to than here.  But that is neither here nor there.  Perhaps I'll do some work of my own after I get these ArduinoBoys sold.

NOTE: new thread as the last one was becoming somewhat long.  Didn't want people feeling obligated to go through 7 pages of discussion to get to the good stuff.

I'm using this long weekend to get caught up on some things I've been meaning to do for a while, specifically finishing up the 15 ArduinoBoys I had lying around.  These will be the last ArduinoBoys I will be making for a while.  Last semester I didn't do so well in one of my classes, and I'd like to focus my energies on retaking this particular course.  Once these 15 are gone, they are gone.  I will not be making anymore until January or later depending on my course load.

The ArduinoBoys are not yet ready for sale.  I only have 6 of them ready at the moment, and as you all know by now, I do not make sales with nonexistent units.  You will be able to purchase them from my new website within the next couple days, possibly tomorrow, assuming all goes as planned.  This post is just to let you know and prepare.  Prices will remain the same as before: $52 for domestic orders, $61 for 6 to 10 day international, and $75 for 5 day international.

god damn it. next time read the childish scribbles known as my schematic correctly. (meaning use ESP because I didn't put that in the schematic)

Will do, sir!

I know that I'm bumping an old thread here, but I just fixed the one that I had. I did so extremely sloppily. Melted wire, the works. Works great, just doesn't look so if you open it up.

The reason isn't because I'm poor at soldering or do a sloppy job. I'm usually nice and clean with my work. The reason is that this is a GREATLY made product. It's extremely tight in there and hard to get into to, and I must admit that I kind of feel bad for making an aesthetic mess out of what was honestly a beautifully well-done product. Great job.

Thank you!  This has been one of my more enjoyable projects as of late, and I am extremely glad that a number of people found them useful and of professional quality.

Thanks to the miracles of Amtrak, Chicago is practically in my backyard.  Maybe this will be a great chance to see a show.

Really?  Given your current avatar, I would have figured you for a major Monty Python nut.

In addition to being a Python nut, I am also a fan of Sam & Max: Freelance Police, NPR's Car Talk and Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, electronics work (it's not just a job, it's a passion), making things with my own bare hands, rifle and handgun shooting (shotgun when I feel like it), cycling rather than driving, video games, music, and college marching band.

By the way, I found the absolute best Flash chip provider, who got me exactly what I wanted (AMD AT29F040B chips) at the price I wanted too. (extra cheap!) So now I have Flash chips coming to me all the way from Hong Kong. Oh yeah! smile

I hate to be a killjoy, but...

Not to say that you will be victim of the same scam, but do keep in mind that there are less than scrupulous people out there who will sell you ICs and ship you fishing weights.
