overall price would thus range from 53,45 € to 64,99 €.

http://chipmod.blogspot.co.at/2012/08/w … noboy.html i bought this one some time ago, now selling because i dont use it. pm for details, can send current pictures as well.

i live in germany though, id prefer shipping within europe.

brb deleting all my lsdj projects b/c they sound like shit in comparison

but seriously, this is great sound design. i tend to focus more on overly complicated melodies, meaning i basically have the opposite problem of yours. so yeah, its repetitive, but not so much that its boring.

This is my current home setup.  pay special attention to the laptop without keyboard and the bass setup. I took the keyboard out because some keys did not work anymore, + the laptop always had cooling problems. As I set up the amp again today for bass recording purposes, I noticed that I dont have the right cables, hence the big cable mess with the Y-split. I rarely record bass, because composing, practicing the line and editing takes so much time.
also, i only have the lite version of my DAW software, meaning a maximum of 8 tracks, 4 midi-instruments, and 6 effect plugins per project. pretty minimalistic ...

equipment shown:

dell vostro 1310, running ableton live lite
focusrite saffire 6 (soundcard)
adam A3X speakers
backlit DMG running LSDj
custom built arduinoboy
ibanez soundgear 300L (bass guitar)
markbass little mark 250 (bass amp)
fender rumble 25 (bass amp combo)
harley benton beq-1 (surprisingly well-made budget bass pedal)
m-audio midi-keyboard

... and now you know how i make all this incredible music.

idk, i just dont think those who like my 180 bpm chiptechno stuff are also into instrumental hiphop ..

But both of those sound like my kinda thing

well, i might have misjudged the listeners; INSTRUMENTAL hiphop might draw an entirely different demographic from hiphop with rapping, too.
but still, different personas might be useful for promotion - like, when they read one of my aliases on a flyer, they wont wonder if it will be fast techno, hiphop, both, or something else entirely.
also, i have a hard time concentrating on a genre/style. that is bad because i barely have a grasp on most genres i do.

clear downside: i dont really know what style/genre this alias is supposed to do. who am i?????

i have various personas to cope with my diverse musical output; the personas are made to have dinstinct colour schemes, clothing, typing styles and music styles. one of them is basicly just an alias of RL me, the other ones are ridiculous fabrications.

idk, i just dont think those who like my 180 bpm chiptechno stuff are also into instrumental hiphop .. also, its kinda fun messing around with those personas ... and people.

Im not an expert on dnb, but giving it space helps a lot; e.g. a bassline with a halftime feeling ("letting it roll"), sparse melody, and then drums: try to let them flow - maybe put a bassdrum or snare at 7, and try hihats on every 16th note. ride cymbals could do the trick as well, should probably try that myself.
chopping the beat up to much takes out the flow, but thats a matter of taste.

i hope this is still relevant to you ..

one time when i played guitar on a bench in a forest/park, some drive-by mountain biker told me i needed a hat. since i cant really play guitar and was just looking for a quiet place to practice outside, i doubt anyone would have put some coins into that hat, though >; ]

i would go busking with my bass or game boy, but the city i live in (heidelberg, germany) doesnt allow amplified busking.

Reference tracks are helpful, looking at the phase scope/ EQ meter is helpful.
But what's helped me IMMENSELY recently is playing back the track through the shittiest speakers I can find.
Mix the track on good speakers so you can hear everything.
But master it so that it sounds good even coming out of a laptop!

this, so much. who am i kidding though, the last time i put any effort into mastering was like a year ago; that is why all my LSDj tracks on soundcloud have a "beta" label

if you put some more effort in before uploading, there might actually be people who listen to your music. im fine though, i like that raw shit.

Keep in mind that lot of small devices employ a faux-surround effect to make their tiny speakers sound bigger than they actually are. They achieve this by using a type of phase inversion that pushes the mix out wider with science. THIS WILL FUCK YOUR MIX if you use a similar effect in production (It will invert your inversion, undoing it entirely), or if you have a lot of phase-able duplicate material overlapping itself (It will sound ghostly and out of place). I first noticed this on my macbook.

devices with faux-surround effects can burn in a fire

since you dont use effects, they would probably make your stuff sound better.

am i the only one who buys DMGs off ebay and repairs them if necessary/possible? but yeah, those prices seem about right. on german ebay, a working green DMG is about 15-20 euro.
doesnt strike me as particularly expensive, though; for 20 euro you wouldnt even get an effect pedal. heck, a new set of bass strings is in that range.
or do you destroy your game boys on stage on a regular basis, The Who-style?

also, +1 for germany-based chiptuners!

This is actually interesting!
I mess with different stuff all the time, so much that I am having problems to develop one style properly. Its all electronic music, but the styles range from instrumental hiphop (hey, something in common wih you!) to house/techno and drumnbass up to instrumental rock. Also, I play electric bass. I. FUCKING. LOVE. ELECTRIC BASS.
Actually, a lot of my pre-chiptune-pieces tend to be kind of ... chippy? I was already using simple waveforms, and several melodies instead of chords. Bass IS mostly a monophonic instrument ...

So yeah, this is my regular soundcloud; just scroll past the first four tracks, which are my chiptune attempts. https://soundcloud.com/steinbolt

This might be a silly suggestion but it's worth a shot, because this definitely confused me for a bit. Make sure your keyboard's range or octave settings is within the Game Boy's range. With LSDJ in Keyboard mode, some of the "notes" actually send commands to LSDJ such as changing instruments, tables, etc. And obviously if the keys are out of the range of the notes the Game Boy can play, you won't hear anything. Give it a shot!

Thanks, I already tested it with all octaves between C1 and C4; right now I try to make it work with mGB, trying out different octaves as well. The silence persists >: [
