Art looks pretty cool. Music's not bad, but honestly I'm not as impressed with it as I have been by past RG releases. I'll probably end up buying it anyway since it's only $8. I do like this new trend of including source files, which can be interesting to look at (I don't use Renoise though). When's Hexadeci getting a proper RG release? I've recently stumbled across his music and think it's pretty great.

I'm excited for more Syphus. If he'd had a physical release for sale at Blip 08 I woulda bought it. Glad to see he's getting an album together. He seems to have disappeared from 8bc/CM/IRC, which is a shame.

This isn't really news though: that video and album announcement have been on his site for at least a month.
Also violin really is like my least favorite instrument. Couldn't we have some nice cello or double bass instead? Even just viola? wink

Also, from personal experience, you'd be really surprised at how much your life can change if you simply start eating regularly and correctly, going to bed before midnight and waking up before noon, drinking water, and getting a little exercise every day.

I do know what an accelerator does. I don't have in mind a specific program that I would want accelerated.

I am not seriously considering buying one at the moment. I just want some general information on the subject for the future.

I don't know. That's part of my question. What can I do with different types of accelerators? I don't really have anything specific in mind (apart from Hively Tracker, which I don't think I can afford to run). I was just wondering if there was a simple guide about this sort of thing for Amiga n00bs (not The Big Book of Amiga Hardware).

I mean, right now the audio on my Amiga isn't even working, so I'm not going to buy an accelerator right now. I just wanted to know more about the subject.

So... what options are out there in terms of accelerators for the 1200? Anything I need to know? Is this a good deal?

Thanks for the links man. I'm gonna order some parts.

Can't believe the Market Hotel show was that long ago.

I'll be there!

I took my Amiga apart to look at the motherboard, and I'm not afraid to try SMD soldering. I'll just need some tweezers and a steady hand.

However, nothing looks corroded and all the solder joints are shiny. Is there a way to pinpoint the problem? I want to make sure that the caps are actually the problem before I start the surgery.

Ah. I've never tried soldering SMD before. There's always a first time right? I'll open up the Amiga to look at it first and decided if I think it's something I can do or not. Coincidentally, I also need to replace the caps in my TV.

EDIT: Amigakit do a cap replacement service, but including shipping it would cost nearly as much as I paid for the Amiga in the first place.
It actually costs the same amount to just buy another motherboard from them. So I might as well try and fix mine myself, and if I mess it up, buy another one.

Yes. Maybe trade for an IAYD poster?

Maybe your audio capacitors are dead, capacitor death is a common problem with Amigas that haven't been used for a while. From the sound of your problem, you possibly have this issue. You will need to get it repaired.

So is it just desoldering capacitors and putting new ones in? I think I can do that myself. Is there a guide somewhere?
I am SO pissed off at the guy who sold this to me right now. I already thought I paid too much, and now this.
I didn't have a way to test sound until now.

If after a wile you get a software error, that's another issue. Do you have any sort of memory expansion? If yes, remove it and try again. But it could be some outdated library you have, like ASL or anything. You will need SnoopDOS to diagnose that.

No memory expansion. I'm done troubleshooting this funky old thing; I'll just wait till my IDE/CF adapter gets here so I can put ClassicWB on it.

I got this demo to run off a floppy, but no sound from it. Is my Amiga's sound chip dead?! sad

I've got AHX on a floppy. I am able to open the program successfully, and then load an AHX song file. When I hit the play button, the tracker starts scrolling, but there is no sound coming out of my speakers, and after a little while I get a software error. What am I doing wrong?
