Radical! Direktor is your icon reminiscent of a midnight crew/felt or is it coincidence?

It is indeed inspired by homestuck, but it is supposed to be an imp. You know, those ghastly rascals that John has to fight against at first? The clothing makes it look midnight-crewish, though.

Rejoice! I finished the composition (mostly) for which I used the instrument in question. It was greatly delayed by broken sav files.

I can not stress enough how much I appreciate your help.

It has happened to me in the past, mine often corrupts the working memory if I mess with the half-clock switch too much. It's never corrupted saved memory before though, so I just make sure to save often.

since I definitely saved again after the shutdown, that might apply to my system as well.

What kind of cartridge is it? Some carts have circuitry to protect the ram, not sure if there's anything like that in EMS carts.

It is the common EMS cartridge. Which cartridges do have this ram protection?

Thank you. I do not have a backlight installed yet, but I already ordered the parts. I thought about the batt_dmg, but decided I would not install it just yet since I do not have much experience with soldering as of yet. Also, I thought it would not be that important.

But, is the shutdown actually the cause for the breaking of my sav files?

Good Day to you, ladies and gents,

since today, another one of my sav files does not work properly anymore; you can not load it with an emulator. However, on the game boy, it still works just fine. I have to access that save with an emulator, though, because I want to put in data from another broken sav, which only works (more or less) on game boys, not on emulators.

This is the theory I have: The savs break when the game boy shuts down due to low battery level, which happened yesterday. Can anyone confirm this? Also, hints on how to avoid this are appreciated. The battery LED always looks the same to me. Recharging the batteries every day seems preposterous, since they last for a week on my DMG.

Thank you for your time.

@lastfuture: thanks! I would have thought scrubbing would take up more time. I have about a dozen cases, though, so I will probably borrow a dish washer.

Thanks! Unfortunately though, I do not own a dish washer. Maybe I can borrow one ... do you just use normal dish washer tablets/fluent?

Good day to you, Sirs and Madams,

I was wondering about the best way to clean DMG cases. I am not talking about yellowed plastic, just a 15 year-accumulation of grime and dirt. I do not want to scrub much. The preferred way would be to just soak the case in a cleaning solvent of some kind, then rub it a bit, è voilà, clean case.

Please share your wisdom.

If you were willing to hard-pan your channels left and right, and you used an audio cable that splits 1x stereo to 2x mono, you could run the left or right side to effects pedals/units. So you could achieve this kind of setup with just one Game Boy if you use it creatively.

had not thought of that! I will try that once the cable I ordered a couple of days ago arrives.

One wav channel can be used to hold kicks and bass notes by alternating between them. At that, you can fit snare samples in those same phrases.

That is true, and I was aware of that. But, it does make a big difference (to me, anyway) wether kick and bass are alternating or playing at the same time.

Yes, I saw that, but thought that the post was so old (2010) it was sold already anyway. Also, it seemed more expensive than another arduinoboy that was sold. Until I remembered just now to calculate how many euros those dollars were worth .... I am going to PM that dude.

Thanks for the hint!

If you are making dance music, just the fact that you can play a fat sine/triangle kick and a wav bass at once is enough to justify 2xLSDj. Also, being able to run one Game Boy through effects (like chorus, lots of reverb aso.) is a big plus. I like it when Game Boy music does not sound too much like game boy music.

But, you can do a lot of those things with an arduinoboy and a laptop running a DAW. I think.

I have not done any 2xLSDj tracks yet, though. And my 1xLSDj track are sub-par, only partly because i am a novice at LSDj.

I would like to buy an arduinoboy. Please name your price and the specifics of the arduinoboy you are selling.

Thank you very much.

Good day to you, dear Sir and Madam,

I have a little problem and hope you can, and are willing to, help me out. The gist of it: My current LSDj sav is not working properly, and the latest sav that IS properly working is weeks old. I composed quite a lot since then, so it would be really good if the current sav would work properly again.

All of it started when I got the "Don't panic!"-screen a few days ago. I took a picture just in case, but it seemed to be working just fine after that. But, yesterday, after it shut down while playing because of low battery levels, it stopped working properly, even after I put fresh batteries in. The key delay/repeat value changed randomly to 0/3, I was only able to get it back to 7/3 (before, it was 7/2). Now the cursor does not properly scroll when you hold down an arrow button (only about one space a second) The second digit of that value does not budge, however I try. I am guessing the value should be manipulated by pressing left/right+A, while the first digit is manipulated by up/down+A.
The other thing that troubles me is that the sav does not work in my emulators. While it at least loads and plays back saved songs on my game boy, the emulators only show an LSDj without any saved songs whatsoever. Earlier savs work perfectly fine on both my game boys and game boy emulators.

Do you have any hints on what to do about this? I guess I could recover the data by loading the songs on my game boy and then entering everything manually into a working LSDj sav on an emulator, but that would be a lot of work. And in the future, it might occur again with even bigger projects (and/or more unsaved songs).

On another note, do you have any idea on which operations are to be avoided if I do not want broken save files?

I use a DMG, a game boy color (problems occured on both), an EMS smart card with an usb port, LSDj v4.6.2 and windows 7 32 bit.

All efforts to help me out will be greatly appreciated!
