So i need a cable that will connect my EMS to my computer audio. Thats how this shebang works, then?

Two words: rechargable batteries. I have no issue with my battery life.
And i sincerely, honstely, cross my heart and hope to die, have 0 experience with making electronic music. What kind of audio cable are you takling about? Theres a good chance i dont have one

its a pocket. I also dont have a music editing program. My history with music is short. I learned to play a Finnish 3 string guitar which sounds good no matter what (called a Dulcimer by some) and spent a while playing gypsy harmonica. This is my first attempt at digital music. I got an MGB and LSDJ so i can carry my music in my pocket wherever i go, and thats about it. Never really considered getting more complicated than that. Im more concerned on learning how LSDJ works first, then getting more complicated, better software and hardware.

Yeah i make threads like these because my computer wont read my EMS. I really, really wish i could just upload my tracks (short, but plenty) and ask for criticism. Im left with my words to describe my issues....

ONLY because you said please...

When i finish my mythology term paper ill set up my speakers and film it, then.

I cant. Trouble with the test mode and the software. Doesnt read my EMS cartridge.

Im very happy to report that i have regained my mastery of LSDJ. Im now able to create several kinds of bass drums and pulse kicks, as well as lead pulse sounds (thanks for the table tutorial, defiantsystems. Owe ya one). Im working in the wave channel now, and by my findings, the synth screen is used most here. Now, the synth screen gets me a little confused, as i dont know what evrything does EXACTLY. Ive scoured the lsdj manual, to no avail. Does anyone know of a tutorial out there that goes over it?

Also, while my beats and rhythm instruments are good in my my opinion, my melodies tend to.... leave for a LOT of improvement. Ive messed around quite extensively but they turn to messy muck very quickly.
My tempo and rhythms sound great. My song doesnt. Any insight or tips, fellas?

Thanks a bunch!

i'm currently experimenting with the effects neodymium magnets have on water, and what properties that water has after it has been subjected to a magnetic field. I'll attend my Kung Fu class at 7:00 and come back at 8:20 to do research on the parameters of the SYNTH screen in LSDJ while I jot down some notes about it. I'll then watch a horror movie or two, then hit the hay.

Saskrotch has a point. I dont know if by artist he means chiptune artist. If thats the case, then im no artist. Im a visual artist, yes, but when it comes to 8bit music, im still a wanna-be.

I generally meant people who make sure other people know they think of themselves as artists

but they HAVE to know, man. Otherwise my nerd glasses and Polaroid camera make me look like a poser!

Is the general consensus that this is just a poorly disguised "give me attention" thread or what?

I'd say i disguised it pretty well.
in all seriousness, though, I don't see why we should keep talking about this. I've come up with a plan to incorporate chiptunes into my visual art, and we'll see how it goes from there. thank you for your advice, though. nice reminders always help.

Yesss. I read the thread. And i came up with the idea to merge my visual art and my chiptunes into a single presentation. Itll be a hit in my art classes next semester, and its a way to fuse my passion for digital music to my passion for painting until im able to just play chiptunes on the go. I think its a good idea and its gonna be really interesting at least.

Ive been playfully thinking about doing a series of paintings depicting screenshots from dramatic scenes of Miami Vice. It would be pretty cool to incorporate sound into thecollection and add my own 80s like soundtrack made with LSDJ. Nothing fancy, of course, but maybe learning some good synths and long, heavy bass lines. This actually sounds like a good idea: incorporating chiptunes to my other work. At least while im learning. Then i can have a hobby AND be the DJ to my own gallery shows to present a specific mood..... hmmmmmmmmmm.

And Miami Vice is pretty hot shit, so watching a few episodes so i can study the audio doesnt sound bad at all.

Saskrotch has a point. I dont know if by artist he means chiptune artist. If thats the case, then im no artist. Im a visual artist, yes, but when it comes to 8bit music, im still a wanna-be. One thing i have to work on, both with my gameboy and brush, is to tackle HUGE projects and theres only one way to do that: get off your ass and do it. To be fair, i havent had the balls to get back in the saddle and try again.

the tutorial thing has a little truth in it. specially since most of the tutorials out there aren't really centralized. sure, there's the nullsleep tutorial and etc etc. but I've seen and gone over those basic tutorials already. most tutorials out there are for one specific instrument, not for the whole LSDJ experience. One tutorial among the dozen I've seen just told me to fuck around with the program. I don't think LSDJ is the kind of art medium that you master by fucking around with it.... at least not effectively. it might be true for figure drawing or painting to an extent, but not for a musical instrument which requires CODING and knowledge of a NUMERICAL LANGUAGE. I would REALLY love it if there was a tutorial series out there that would sit you down, and go through every part of the LSDJ program with you from the very beginning to extremely complex things. But as far as I know, that kind of tutorial is not out there. I'd like to see your tutorials and go through with them, but I still don't think I'm ready because some of the stuff you cover still looks like greek to me, so I still feel like i have to climb through a lot of shit to even get to the interesting stuff.

n00bstar you always know exactly what to say...
