as long as experimental isnt just another word for lazy or bad, then yeah

Not to put too fine a point on it,
aanaaanaaanaaana.net wonders if it's been edged out of the chiptune discussion simply because it releases tracker modules instead of gameboy recordings? None of our music has anything to do with straight dance music or virtuoso AOR, instead staying folksy and silly, having mystique and the promise of eventually understanding all the in-jokes, but hardly anyone's clicking and the email we passed around to receive demos has been rather overlooked.

the reason I didn't listen to many aana releases because I'm unaware of their existance, I listened to owl when it was released on here, and loved it, I can honestly say I thought "every ruin was a building" was beautiful song.

ill have you know that i exclusively make instrumental hiphop. pity there isnt really a market for instrumental chip-hiphop....

but well, not like my mediocre tracks would get airplay even then.

I am the market for instrumental chiphop, I kinda gave up looking when I couldn't find that much (although sketch showed me some cool stuff)

And yeah, I just use VLC to play modules, I opened an .xm by accident one time, and it worked so I've just used it ever since.

Also going to try and enter, I've never written a song to a kb limit, so this should be a fun challenge! And, more than a month will actually give me time to learn how to use milkytracker properly.

Reading through this thread has made me realize that chiptune is a bigger thing than I (and many other people) imagine. The thought of people who were writing this stuff 14 years ago, and are still writing amazes me. I've only known about chip since around 2010, back when 8bc was a thing, but that's it, it stopped being a thing, and will eventually be all but forgotten. I've only been trying to write chip for just over a year, however I have yet to even release an EP let alone a full album. I can still see myself here, maybe not here, maybe on a different website, but still making chip in a few years down the line. I tend not to stick with something for more than a year if I'm going to give up on it, if I was going to stop making chip, I would have made a shitey 4/4 LSDJ gabber album, then dropped out after 5 months. Sure, there is a lot of gameboy dance music, not all of it is good, but there are people making good music. There are artists who make great LSDJ dance music, others that write different types of music, but still on old machines, no matter what they are.

Deep down I hope that I'm still here in 30 years, and that people that predate me will still be here to call me a newfag

I wrote a lot for that, interesting survey though, not all the usual questions.

no, it sounds rad and its fun

either 1:00-2:00 or 5:00+ but those are hella repetitive, even if I do like the way they sound

if you're suggesting that, then maybe get rid of the "E" sign seeing as euro games don't have their ratings on the cart. Well, none of the ones I've come across have.

Woah, going to have to pull out of this one, exams are coming up and I don't have enough time sad

ditto here, I've been jamming with it, but I can't make it work with the time I have left. Already spent hella while revising shit rather than working on this annoyingly enough.

This seems pretty interesting, will be following this

try out as many things as you can, then use what you find the most comfortable. I bought LSDJ ages ago, and rarely use it. It's nice to have just incase, but I much prefer using famitracker or piggytracker. I really like a lot of stuff written in milky, but I can't write the type of music that sounds good in it.

I to am confuserated about what you mean by "until I hack my gameboy"
I kinda assumed that the reason people "hacked" their shizz was to give it extra potential for music or whatever. I backlit mine because I could play games/use LSDJ in the dark.
