You seem to think there's a reasonable reason for composing at anything less than full volume. Set it to max volume, put a drop of super glue there, fixed.

Hi there again!

My second track is more like music what I will focus on when I get better. I'm just missing that deep sine wave bass. I love it but don't know how to create it. If you don't know what kind of sound I'm talking about, you can find it here at 2:14: https://soundcloud.com/oskill8/oskill8-jonezky-ski-die

I'd have some use for it in my next tracks. By the way, let me know what you think of my second chiptune ever, I really appreciate feedback.

That's not a sine, it's a triangle wave. And that particular one is a 4bit triangle wave (standard NES type triangle)

The thing about triangle waves though is that they neither have the harsh punch of a square, or the deep rumble of a sine, so they tend to be softer and die easily in the mix. Your solution for that is too keep the surrounding instruments fairly low volume and your tri wave should pierce the mix just fine. Or you can overamp it, but you'll lose some of the character of the sound.. the more you clip, the closer to a square you get.

There was a little problem on one of the files, it had a long silence at the end of a track for no reason. Well.. there's a reason, and that reason is I made a stupid mistake exporting the masters tongue

Anyways. To all who purchased the album, you can redownload it now and get the fixed version. If you bought a CD copy, please contact us a cheapbeatslabel@ [gmail dot com] and we'll get you a new CD shipped asap.

They look for hot google searches and use those words.

Beyonce in the news this week? There's something about her in the spam.

I'm assuming the spiders are because daddy long legs are common all around the world and a lot of people might be googling how to get rid of them around the house?

Dunno man... I don't ask questions, I just sit here fascinated that spam is still a thing.

1) BECAUSE IF ITS NOT THE LOUDEST THING EVER RELEASED IT'S SIMPLY NOT WORTH RELEASING. But really though, the problem isn't the volume, it's the compression. Mastering at -1 or 0db is fine as long as you don't squash the file so EVERYTHING hits at 0db. Take a listen at Jredd & Groovemaster's latest album (although a bandcamp stream really isn't going to be all that amazing...you should definitely buy it! plug plug) for which I did the mastering. It's mastered at 0db, but with gentle compression so only the loud peaks hit 0db. The dynamics are still there, the songs breathe in and out instead of just spitting all their instruments at you.

2) Small delays like that will introduce phasing/flanging. Sometimes people double their instruments to gain volume past what a single instrument can do. It *can* be a solution sometimes when you're composing with the tracker as an instrument (ie, using the sound mixing engine's artifacts to create textures that cannot be done when keeping volumes in check) but in 99% of all cases it's a dumb-as-fuck solution to a problem that is much MUCH better addressed by lowering the volume of everything else around it.

Aye it was alright. But we were shooting for something less pixel-y, and less videogame-y. Considering the growing catalogue that is getting increasingly more varied, the connection with pixel/vg was less and less relevant. We also wanted something that scales well at any size... on the off chance we might someday sponsor a football team and have our banner on the field...or something. tongue

Hola señors!

For the past few weeks, we have been secretly working on a big ass update on all things Cheapbeats. And by all things, I really mean only a few things. Not many actually. BUT STILL. Here's what new!

- New image! We got tired of the old logo, so we've modernized it. It now kinda looks good! Almost.... well barely. But still!

- New website! For the longest time we had a crappy looking website that we quickly got so very tired of that we took if offline and used www.cheapbeats.net as a cheap redirect to our bandcamp page. WELL NO MORE. No sir. We've gone and redesigned the crap out of it so now it looks like something that looks like something of a website. None of that mid-90 geocities vibe that we had going on for a while. Now it's full of wonderful things like... images, and buttons. Total information highway new-millenium dotcomboom stuff happening.

- Tshirts! That's right! We now make tshirts! More exclamation marks! Woo! Go have a look!

- Youtube channel update. We're in the process of making a large part of our catalogue available on Youtube. But we're still small. So small in fact that we do not yet qualify for a proper Youtube address. You can help us grow by subscribing and maybe we'll reach enough sucbriber to have a cool /cheapbeats extension. How bout that? Come and subscribe!

And to celebrate these minors happenings like they were the biggest news this week, we're offering everybody a week-long 20% discount on all our releases. Simply enter the code "shamu" when you make a purchase on our bandcamp page and BOOM, discount mode activated.

And we also have another deal happening. But this one requires a little help from you fine chaps. We've made an Imgur post about the new website in the hopes to reach outside of the usual somewhat limited chipscene demographic. If our post reaches the front page, we'll be giving everybody a free album of their choice from out catalogue. You can make the magic happen here!

AND VISIT OUR NEW WEBSITE! It's really kind of almost nice!
