Thanks for the info.

Questions:

1.) Out of famitracker do you guys split the wav's into separate wav's for each channel, or keep it as one wav file out?

2.) What sort of EQ and processing (if any) do you put on the tracks?

3.) Any tips for EQing triangle / sawtooth?

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. I ended up getting everything lined up. I did have to settle the BPM at a better number so I took the speed up to 8 with the tempo at 150. This calculated the BPM at 112.5 instead of the 128.576235467895blah blah blah. I brought the .wav into reaper but things were still a little off. I zoomed in on the wav and noticed that there was just a little bit of blank space before the first note played. So I zoomed in more and cut that out. Once I snapped the wav to the grid after that and turned on the metronome it was synced up perfectly. Now I can adjust my BPM in reaper back up to 128 and speed it back up!

It's a little bit of a weird process but it works.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am exporting a .wav out of famitracker and importing it into reaper. If I adjust the BPM in Reaper I can sometimes get it pretty close but it doesn't stay that way for long. So I should adjust the speed in famitracker to get it to an even BPM that isn't rounded out so far? Then I could speed it back in Reaper once I import it?

I have a song in famitracker that I am working on. It is set to Speed - 7, Tempo - 150. The BPM on the bottom of the screen says 128.57. What I want to do is export to .wav and bring it into Reaper. Then I will program drums and record some guitar and bass over it. I can't for the life of me seem to get the BPM in Reaper to line up with the BPM in famitracker.

Has anyone here done this and have any good ways to match this up? Is there something I am missing here?

When I say pitch bend I'm thinking more lead instrument pitch rather than a kick drum type pitch drop. Like the subtle bend down at this part of an Anamaguchi song:

I did purchase Chipsounds a while back. There are tons of awesome sounds in it. Great plugin. I've only recently got into midi (got my first keyboard for christmas). I recorded a song with it and people told me it sounded like chiptune sort of, (even though I think it sounds like Devo). I started looking into chiptunes and love the sound of the old school NES and game boy. I think Chipsounds is great sounding. I do like the sound of the old hardware better though.

I think I need to learn more about how all this stuff works.I'm getting the hang of LSDJ, but I am used to using Reaper with chipsounds loaded as a vst. So much to learn!

You need to use the built in sequencer to get chippy sounds. Midi doesnt have that sexy tracker resolution required.

Do you mean the pattern editor in renoise or some other sequencer?

Thanks for the info! I did some playing around with midi automation and bending last night. It sounds a little different. It doesn't have that awesome NES sound. I think at this point I will work on learning LSDJ on an emulator. Once I put a song together and I feel it's something I would pursue then I think I would get hooked up with a game boy for the hardware.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to read up and play around a little then. I love the sound of the NES pitch bends. I am wondering if the midi pitch bends will sound similar.

I downloaded the renoise demo and loaded chipsounds in it. I tried to program some pitch bends and nothing happened. I'm guessing it is because chipsounds is a vst? Anyways is there a way to do pitch bends?

Any tutorials out there on chipsounds with renoise?

Would anyone be willing to share an example file with me so I could take a look at how things are set up?

I knew I was getting information from somewhere!

Nevermind. I ended up getting it working. There were more chains in 01 than I realized so it seemed like it was stuck on that first chain and not moving down.

I'm 38. Majored in Philosophy in college. Graduated and got a job doing system admin / web design stuff.  Now I am a software engineer that programs HVAC and security systems. Married with two kids. After they go to sleep at night I rock out on my computer. I am hoping to add a Game Boy DMG to that scenario soon.
