(i foresee when this thread gets pages long sorting through this may be difficult)

i propose you move all the 'active' polls to the first post, and bump the thread when there is a new poll and direct people to the first post.  then all the active polls, no matter how crazy the thread gets, will be in one nice box.  people won't look simply to the last message you wrote...

but, do whatever.  just thinking out loud and being preemptive.

(the wait may be a little bit, i make another revision to the case last week...  unexpected issue)

want to mention real quick, the AceKards are still around, if anyone wants one get it now I won't stock them again

from the newsletter:

hey everybody!

its taken quite a while to get this kit released, but finally the electroluminescent backlight panels for DMG are ready:

http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/el_dmg

this is the first run of this kit, if anyone picks it up and wants to give me some feedback, i'd love to hear it!

also, there is a LOT of new custom-painted stuff by wesleyoung up in the shop here:

http://store.kitsch-bent.com/category/custom

the last thing i want to mention real quick (i've gotten a flood of emails about this): the 64M carts will be restocked this coming week, probably on Wednesday.  sorry about the wait everybody!  i totally messed up getting the re-order done like i should have...

till next time, keep chipping!

matt

thanks!

^ they're ready

edit: i should probably mention re: the hum...  i get no hum, no matter what, through one unit.  i just modded another, and get no hum whatsoever in LSDJ until playback starts (audio is engaged) then is goes away when playback stops.  so, i need to figure this out more.  turning off the backlight makes it totally go away.  the other unit though, the one i've been testing all this with...  not a problem at all.  its strange, i haven't done anything different.  so, i'll keep on with this bit.  turning the backlight off with a switch on the power wires would of course make it go away totally though.

i like this

um, i was hoping to have them ready today but something came up this afternoon (typical), so hopefully tomorrow!  i'm battling a few other things that have deadlines right now, getting this out took an unwanted backseat...

hopefully tomorrow.  everything is packed, just need to do tutorial.

more-than-likely all the contacts aren't touching between the cart + gameboy.

try pulling it in and out of the gameboy a bit to dislodge whatever may be the issue or realign the cart a bit, and see if this helps

-- removing the pads is the solution wink  the panels are so ridiculously thin, and without the pads its fine.  if you got pressure from them, just take them out.  no big deal.

-- if you hook up to the power points the way justin had mentioned originally, you'll get more noise.  use the 5V/GND straight off the regulator PCB.  (this was the cause of his mysterious noisy results via pro-sound that i couldn't replicate)

(i'll go through this all in the tutorial)

(and you're welcome for the opportunity!  thanks for being a human test subject!)

it pulls around 60-65mA, so its a little bit more than a three LED backlight, but not significantly more.  they'll pull ~45mA for a three LED version.  its really not a big drain on the battery.

you can compute that into 'time' if you want, the difference probably isn't worth the effort though.

didn't there use to be an off-site database of 8bc music that was feeding a radio channel, or something along those lines?  i sort of remember an incomplete one that didn't pan out for some reason, perhaps someone has links on it and the database is still there.  although i bet the radio feeds were all tied into the site somehow.  just pondering...  but if there is a repository somewhere that used to supply a service like that, it may be a solution to tracking down some lost things.

I've found that Bandcamp networking loops are rather small and tend to close quickly.  Checking out someone's 'recommendations' or whatever (anything to find out about new stuff there, apart from searching keywords from the homepage) very quickly comes back to the beginning.  People recommend each other in turn, the recommendations list maxing at 3 really hurts the site in that way imo.  the networking trees are rather stunted.

If you don't like it/don't get it, that's ok!

ditto

quite a nice thing for you to do!  don't use Chrome myself, but i'm sure others would appreciate it.  at least on android tablets (me reference i guess), i'd much prefer everything accessible from the same location (things i used a lot at least).   i'll put these on there if possible, would save a couple button presses and navigation to get where i want to go.

it'd be very nice to expand on the app though in the future, take advantage of the potential of it being an app in a full way, rather than just as a shortcut.  maybe add a menu to the app for quick site navigation, easy access to the music in playlist format, or whatever.  a way to make a mix in the app of selected songs from the music section, that would bleed into one another, and playback through your device.  to make quick easy mini mixes from cm.o tracks.  or whatever, there is a lot of stuf to do.

i don't see it as a bad impulse at all.  very skimpy now and a waste of what an app *can* be, true, but still it saves me....  3 or 4 screen presses, at least.  thanks!  if it'll run on my tablet...

edit -- made a lot of grammer mistakes, migraine, don't feel like changing

try zoviet:france's "what is not true" album.  its amazing.
and if 'music for airports' isn't part of the eno stuff that you're growing tired of, add it to the list too wink

abreojos.net is good as well, visual too (with synths)

edit: and, most all of the roster on staalplaat and beta-lactum ring record labels.  staalplaat used to do a weekly music download email that was really great, i bet its been moved over to a podcast or something easier...

look for nex on noisechannel too, he frequents there a bit

he means switching midi pins around, not on the uC

also, make sure the polarization film from the backlight mod didn't fall/slide out.  if this happened, you won't see anything on the screen at all, just blank.

adjust the contrast dial as well (very very common mistake).  the more common is to forgot to plug the ribbon cable back in, but if the power light is on you've done this already...

check the ribbon cable for tears too, not just the contact points.  this can bend and break.
