fatass is apparently a "stripped down fasttracker 2 clone"... luckily FT2 is one of the biggest and most popular trackers ever so it's easy to find clones of it, i would try:

- fasttracker 2 (for MS DOS)
- milkytracker - a beefed up fasttracker 2 clone for windows/linux/mac
- nitrotracker? - a stripped down fasttracker 2 for NDS
- protracker 3 - fasttracker 2's granddad. for amiga
^those ones all use sampled instruments so you can do what you want soundwise

- reality adlib tracker (an FT2-feeling tracker for MS DOS fm synthesis) - the instrument editor is a bit confusing (same with all dos fm trackers) at first but you get your head round it quick enough

someone else can probably recommend trackers to run natively on atari or spectrum

the c64 trackers seem to have their own cliches and ideals and as far as my experience goes, none of them feel much like FT2 (that's not to say you won't like them!), in fact they are more similar to lsdj mostly as the creator of lsdj is a c64 scener. but cybertracker seems popular for its simple PC-like interface

just spitballing here because i haven't used fatass so i don't know how it differs from lsdj but i guess the patterns-as-a-whole vs patterns broken into chains and phrases will be the key interface difference given that the GB basically determines the input scheme... patterns-as-a-whole is by far the most common approach in PC trackers, far less common on C64.

good luck!

I remember that shit

why did you pm me in june saying you didnt remember it

i don't really listen to it very much any more, or make it for that matter. without the community aspect (not trying to say anything about the state of the community other than that i'm no longer much part of it) it kind of lost its USP i think. and that is coupled with my recent loss of creativity and growing interest in other things, which put me off tracking myself, plus a shift in my listening habits to involve more spotify playlists and less files on my hard drive

not like i hate it or anything but im definitely not spending my christmas holidays trawling through the hvsc for hidden bangers or flying out to germany to meet fellow chiptuners or whatever anymore

welcome back, i like your new song

oh i have a samsung galaxy tab A 9.7 which has a fairly big screen which might make it easier to track on

can i just put in a word for PIXITRACKER

such a gorgeous and well designed and intuitive interface, and nice built in sounds (plus you can load your own)

chantal goret

not sure about a resource but off the top of my head

game boy: 4 (pulse, pulse, noise, wave)
NES: 5 (pulse, pulse, triangle, noise, wave)
C64: 3 (any combination of pulse/saw/triangle/noise)
spectrum 128k: 3 (any combination of square/noise)
atari st: 3 (any combination of square/noise)
pc w/ opl2: 9 (2op fm x9)
pc w/ opl3: 18 (2op fm x18 or 4op fm x9 iirc)
amiga: 4 (4x wave)
"pc tracker music": lots (wave)
piggy tracker: 8 (wave)
genesis/megadrive: 7 (6x 4op fm + wave) ((is this right?? someone correct me))

it's fine to not use arps and stuff, of course. i know a lot of people say it's about the "limitations" but personally i think most of us just like the sounds and like playing around to get them

4 channels of pure sine waves will sound a lot less "chiptunes" than 8channels of pulse and noise and stuff, i guess (but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it!)

i do not speak german but judging by the comments on that youtube video it might be a loop called "high technical loop 85" from magix music maker

goto80 for writing lots of very cool and good chiptunes

and zan-zan-zawa-veia for being amazingly incredibly talented and also very human and funny and kind

the triangle wave freakout that starts at 5:15 in this https://zan-zan-zawa-veia.bandcamp.com/album/mist-slug is the best chiptune guitar solo

and the riff in that is the best chiptune guitar riff

thanks, i have always felt pinterest was missing that vital "ponzi scheme" feel

this kind of thing isn't usually my cup of tea but i am really enjoying this

links work fine for me
